Ryoken's 89 Crew Cab Tubebed build... aka Mutt....

trying to see if i can actually cram Mutt in.... the tape measure says, maybe... :haha:

All but that 1/4" you forgot.:doah: Besides goes in lowered comes out lifted? Roll it out on the rotors....:haha:

Drooling at your pile. Jelous of your time to work on it. Someday may just need to send you a plane ticket. Cheif should he may save a couple of $$.

eh, technically, it would fit from door to opposed wall, no room to work at all tho... so I'm gonna just pull it 1/2 way in or so, close the door down to the flatbed for a couple days... the front is the bigger deal, I should be able to do the back in a day easy after the front is done.. but the fronts gonna take a couple days probably, I'd like to have that "in" the garage...

you did just remind me of the door tho, and i had forgotten that... :doah: :haha: the cab definitely wouldn't fit back out... actually i do have some 8 lug steelie rims that i can use for that, beats using the floor jack...

I found a guy to paint my Blazer...he works only by referral and when I got there he had a K5 in the booth...with a 6.6 diesel...it was a CUCV...red now, going back to OD green...

I still hate that I couldn't do the final finish, but I just don't think circumstances would fall into place for that...but I got to give you many, many thanks and appreciation that you got me to this point...I was able to drive up and talk "shop" to this guy...tell him how I used 2k high build primer, and professional fillers like kitty hair and Rage Gold...how I sprayed the urethane base with hardener and the high solids clearcoat...
we were talking the same language. I took pictures and showed him my bodywork progression...he a was bit shocked at how much had been done the quarter replacement...welding...I was thinking about you...but I was afraid to say "some guy from Joysee taught me how to do this online"....sounds ridiculous doesn't it?...

He told me to just sand down the tailgate and bring it with...that way I don't have to worry about spraying clear out in the yard...

I figure it will be a few weekends before I have it put back together and ready for him to paint...but I am already getting nervous about leaving it somewhere for a week...I don't know what I will do when it's out of my sight and not in my garage...for two years I have lived and breathed that thing...and it's not finished yet...even after it's painted I figure it's only at the 70% mark...

a chance to organize the garage.... :haha:

eh, wish it had turned out a bit better, but it is a tough learning curve to get perfection on the first go round... remember, I have 30+ yrs doing it and have certainly learned my tough lessons over the yrs...

and you can be proud of doing the majority of the work in the right methods yourself.. props.. and congrats on finding someone who seems to not be an arse...

so, that's this weekends plan, clean, scrub, reorganize the dungeon.. this is gonna be my prefall cleanout so I'm all ready for some tube fab work over the next months... gonna pull a good amount of stuff out, powerwash, etc... the biggest ordeal is gonna be moving the K5... not an easy task on saw horses.... :doah: :haha:

That's the difference...the body work and primer afforded me the chances to do it over and over again until it was right...the paint and clear are so expensive and the prep to get it to that point is so time consuming that do-overs aren't an option for somebody like me...
I guess that's the biggest lesson for somebody who decides to take this own for themselves...

the knowledge is MUCH more expensive these days when it's coming out of your pocket.....

nah, no need for boards, tho they have been used occasinally over the yrs for axles, fridges, etc :haha: between the cherry picker and floorjack, no big.. it'll just be an all day affair, especially trying to run a powerwasher in there.... gotta see how much stuff I can get out of there, and there is a lot of "stuff" :doah:

Mutt sure is going to look cool with all those parts installed.

you have no idea how bad I'm chomping at the bit to have this done.. the push/pull steering brings the sloppy wandering ghey :haha:, no shock bushings, etc... performance-wise, it needs it real bad....

and looks-wise, it should be a huge improvement.. it looks ok, but it should look much better proportionately with the lift... much stouter..

even with a wood flatbed! :haha:

Mutt, under the knife...

it's still getting the weld-in and bolt-in tomorrow tho... ;)

back down to cut the shackle shackle hangar rivets out for the FUSH kit.... :weld::grind:

By any chance can you grab that measurement off mutt for the shackle?

on the k5 it was from the middle of the bolt hole back to the middle of the back bushing hole in the frame is 46 5/8". From where the springs bolts in the front to the center of the frame bushing

Other then that I can't wait to see Mutt's new look.

Thanks.

maybe just a tad shy of 46.75" so, just about the same.. this may be a more accurate measure, pluds it's stock, whereas the K5 is the B-52 setup...

That is perfect. I couldn't have asked for anything better.

I to have one of those non cracked gm frames, but mine is also becoming a bastardized c/k series.

That butt sticking out is funny as hell.

As for the frame, that is the one thing I guaranteed was good.
Sorry about the trouble you had with the engine, but I hope you liked the rest of it.
I can hardly recognize that truck anymore:eek1:
And I know lots of people praise you for that flat bed, and I know it was a necessity for registering it, but I am waiting for the time you remove that butt ugly thing and build your dream bed so I can see what is in your head.:D
