Ryoken's 89 Crew Cab Tubebed build... aka Mutt....

My 285's measure exactly 32" when installed on the truck. They clear on the rear no problem and had a slight rub on the front, but with minor (very very minor) massaging they clear no problem.
Is yours a dually?
They are concerned with the tires rubbing against each other because the tires are too wide.
We know a 3/4 ton and 1 ton can clear 33" tires no problem, the issue is having enough space between the dual tires.

Oh Gotcha! Nope mines a SRW.:waytogo:

Correct.

and 255/85R16 is 31.1x10

285/75R16 is 32.8 x 11.2

265/75R16 is 31.6 x 10.4

Check it out here,

not the same for all brands of tires though...that is the point I was trying to make above...the same size tire can vary in section width, and overall height depending on who makes it.

yes, that was a mistype...

she is a dually once again... the dungeon, being dungeony.....

lumber bed is designed, cut and mocked up.. tomorrow I glue and screw it, douche it in black stain, than mount it over the weekend... taillights will be at the ends of the rails, which I took about 8" off of...

next month when I do the x-member and real bed, I'll take another 3" off or so...

repurposed K5 air cleaner assembly modded to mate up to the 1 ton goofy rad support box, in loosely for photo op...

INCLUDING.... the old salad bowl! ;)

after mocking up the dopey wood bed, I'm sooooooo stoked to build the tube one...... :doah: :haha:

Hey Paul, I still owe you a set of these unless you have a set laying around, just so you can have a nice stable front bumper.
Will put them with the Title

IMAG0191.jpg

hey Issaam, thanks, yeah I could actually use em, as I'd like to keep a stock bumper up there for awhile... probably blasted and satin black... that's what I'm going to on the rims for now too...

if they make overnighting the title expensive expensive, we can do them later or something.. the title being critical, brackets not so much..... :haha:

Ryoken is the busy boy lately... feels good...

Could you maybe get some good used ones instead of buying new?

I've never been much for buying used tires.. just didn't generally live near boneyards or places that sold em...

i do have something of a lead on this currently tho, maybe something will pan out....

lots of idea's being flushed out... decided to immediately get new 56's in, in the back at a stock width.. no inboarding immediately.. for moneys-sake, I'm just gonna keep the factory tension shackle, run the factory 4" block with new spring plates and new, long u-bolts... when i inboard the springs, I'll need new custom u-bolts for the bags anyway...

the other thing about this rig is it has no cat.. I'm perfectly fine with that.. but me thinks it be illegal here more than likely.... the exhaust has a few leaks around the manifolds, this may be going in for a full exhaust at my bud's Meineke in short order.... with headers...

hmmm, headers might be easier said, than done... not seeing d*ck for an 89 7.4 with AIR....

Did it have a cat originally ? I only ask because my 86 K30, a few years older, but it was factory duals with no cats. It has/ had 2 smog pumps , but no converters. Something to do with the GVW :dunno:. Mines a 454 also, but a SRW.

mines smog pump too, same serp belt as the alt.. just my cursory look while down below it appeared to have a pipe section in where a cat would go..

I'm thinking of just throwing new manifolds in, the Dorman's are cheap, and bolting the Y and rest back up to em.. see if my inspection guy says anything...

gonna have my parts guy send over a pair of exhaust manifolds tomorrow, and probably new motor mounts/trans mount while I'm in there.. opportune time to do em and they're cheap... should have that all done by mon/tues... I should have it pretty roadworthy mid next week... tho fuel filling is still up in the air at this point...

If you don't know a tech that you can ask questions to, I do, I will check for you, but as far as I know this truck is a federal truck not CA, and the heavy duty ones didn't get a CAT, and if the factory didn't put them in, no one can make you put them in, not NJ and not CA.
You are only responsible for keeping the truck the way it came from the factory.
I will see if I can find out tomorrow, they usually have a book to look this info up.

I have a smog book and looked it up for you. According to it if its TBI CAT and AIR is required. THe only way you get away with not cats is on a carb. motor even when over 8501 GVW. CA and FED both require single cat system (although if you run dual exhaust you can run 2 cats). In 89 GM did produce some of the K30's with carbs, that were a FED smog truck.

thanks.. yeah, it wont be pressing... i'll do manifolds and that'll take care of any leaks.. make the system solid... keep the AIR setup.. than i'll run it thru my inspection guy.. if he bitches or fails it, I'll need the cat verified than...

Well this one is TBI and it's single exhaust, so I guess it HAD a CAT.
thing is it was in NV where they do not smog, so I guess they decided to ditch the CAT, looks like they did a lot to this truck that I didn't even know, and I technically owned it for 8 months, but drove it probably 2 weeks.:doah:

yeah, I'll just do new manifolds into a factory style single system with a high flow cat, big pipe and like a 50 series...

Yeah I have bought trucks from nevada and run into the issues with all the smog shtuff taken off! At least the AIR system is there. I had a hell of a time getting the correct AIR tubes for my 84! As far as Cats go, the stock sand cats that came on TBI trucks, when hot, do the best as far as tail pipe emissions are concerned.

I havent used a high flow cat, how do they perform? Need one for my blazer, gotta love Cali!:doah:
