Ryoken's 89 Crew Cab Tubebed build... aka Mutt....

thanks.. the motors wont stop me from swapping in the new sheetmetal.. as long as I have new felt's/channels, I'll put the doors on.. I'll just recondition everything I can, lube it all up and run it...

wow, I'll have decent looking mirrors for a change...

I guess we need these,

I got my vent seals from them and they were pretty good...I may order my other seals from them as well...they are cheaper on a lot of them, and on the oem GM NOS stuff...they aren't horrible....for the real thing

just wrote up a $235 order with them... and GM when available... i'll order that on the 2nd... that includes everything for the 4 doors except a rear door staionary window rubber.. which i think I can reuse... I'm pretty certain cleaned and lubed the ps motor would be reasonable, but the ds is very pathetic.. think I'll get one new one for the ds...

so.... tentative parts order...

door felts, blah, blah...

ORD stuff, shocks, weld-in, etc

TUBE!!!

I'll be ordering some stuff from them soon...really would like GM channels and felts...and I'd buy that GM Tailgate seal for $88 before I would buy a repro from LMC for $50...
I got to get the trim pieces first and foremost so I know where the white paint lines are...

These guys are the only place I have run across with a lot of NOS stuff...don't know where they got it..but it's definitely limited...their oem trim pieces are out of the question...over $100 for each single piece...they can keep it for that...they finally sent me a real catalog...so I can drool and highlight stuff on my wish list..

so.... i've been wondering about this for a couple months now...

my rig, for whatever worldly GM wisdom, is referred to as a 1989 V3500, not a K3500... my parts guy said the main determination for that is the acc set up/belt's on my motor.. with the 3 different belts..

now my question is, I have seen K3500 listed many places too for 1989, in addition to the V designation... what exactly would the K rig be? are they only single cab 1 ton? or is it just some ghostly "carry-over" in a swapover time period...

I would much rather refer to the rig as K series, but apparently it's gonna be V for all the parts people..

Up until 89 they where all either a C for 2WD and K for 4WD ( that is a build code at the factory ). When the new body style, they used those letters on them also, so they change to a V on the old square body they where still building.

so, an 89 k5 is a v series... and any single cab is either a c or k...

My parts guy is a friend so when I go in for parts I get to see his computer. On the 90 truck it always comes up as a K3500 (srw, standard cab) but on my suburban it is listed as a C20 (trailering special).

Until I joined this site I had never heard of the designation change. So the V code covers the square bodys that where built after 88 until what 91?

I think my 88' Blazer is actually a V10 Blazer:dunno:. I'll have to look agian.

i think so.. i think that's what it's listed under in the parts books.. actually, now that i think about it, i seem to remember autozone having my 87 K5 listed as a V10..

Like I stated the C and K come from build code at GM to designate a truck as 2WD(C) or 4WD(K) just as 10, 20, and 30 for 1/2, 3/4, and 1 ton. And because they kept using them on the new body style in 88 they changed all the old square body (blazers, Suburbans, and Crew Cabs) to R and V's.

not sure if it was mentioned cause I just skimmed the last day or so, but..

the square crews are V30 from 88-91. the other body style single/extended cabs of the same years are c/k's. and the burb and k5 did go to the V designation too. Confused the chit out of me at first. I just look up 87 parts for my burb to avoid it when I can.
