Ryoken's 89 Crew Cab Tubebed build... aka Mutt....

eh, if your in there, might as well make it look at least decent.. you know me, that's a peave.. "ok, great, you installed a nice ORD/DIY4 shackle flip, you could at least scuff up the rail behind it and slap some paint on the frame area your gonna bolt it to"... than that "area" is done... drives me batsh*t crazy when I see that crap.... :haha:

For some reason, I'm with you on that.:haha:

to me, it's a difference between "doing a job", like at work, and "building something for myself"...

I had to do a double take on this pic:

it looks like the ds of the truck is resting on a milk crate. :haha:

:haha::haha::haha:

it does..... one day I'll buy/fab some killer jackstands.. but being a marina guy, keel blocks and lumber are readily available.... just brought home a bunch of 18" long 6" x 6"s.... doubled up for each layer... made damn sure I rocked the living pee out of the rig when I first set it up.... :haha:

I trust what I did WAY more than I would a set of stands, even killer ones...

hey.. so, I'm shopping stereo's for Mutt.. head units are cheap enough these days, and the cassette deck just ain't cutting it... :haha:

so, I'm gonna get this sony.. it gets excellent reviews, it's a justifiable cost and it has the features I'm looking for...

my question is, it has USB ports for a "mass storage device", which I briefly looked up.... can I use a laptop running windows 7 as a msd for it? or does it need to be a MP3 player, flash drive, etc?

oh, here's the head unit..

Use a flash drive. They are super cheap for large GB storage now

but COULD a laptop be used that way? or would the head unit get all retarded trying to find the files?

I'm gonna have a laptop in the rig very often for data-logging, etc, and I figured it'd be handy if I can just use that...

but yeah, for 15, $20 a tiny flash drive is hard to argue with..

You could run a auxiliary cord from the laptop to the aux input on the radio, and control the music selection from the computer.

Martin

yeah, but what is the aux imput? the USB on the front
?? the rca jacks on the back are for audio out .. so I could just run a USB/USB cable?

actually, fock the laptop, why waste battery life for the tunes, the flash player holds plenty.. i'll leave the laptop for data logging..

That little bitty round hole next to the USB port is the AUX Input.

Martin

ah yeah, good eye.... didn't even see that... so I guess that would be some USB to auxilary plug cable or adapter doohickey.... I'll have to look around for that... thanks....

sweet, easy peezy, $5 cable... tank ya... :D I'm still gonna order a flash drive when I order the head unit too...

I had this head unit in my S10 and I loved it. Easy to use and huge audio tunability. Hook a powered sub and a set of 4 quality speakers and it THUMPS!

Also depending on the extras you want you can get the same stereo with blue tooth, HD radio, Sirius, and Pandora radio connectivity.

and

than I'll follow it up with a bit of..

and finish off with some

I'll probably get some decent door speakers... not worried about an amp for now.. with the dog coming, I'm more concerned with the head unit and a couple quality speakers up front at this point... I'm thinking I may just do a highend set of 6 x 9's in the door for now.. so maybe 200, $250 into this....

That kenwood is a better unit by far:waytogo:the power output from the deck is much better quality than the sony.

And as for the flash drive. Get the shortest one you can. they even make ones FOR this application. A longer one will easily get bumped and can destroy your usb port in the front of the deck.
