Ryoken's 89 Crew Cab Tubebed build... aka Mutt....

just getting caught back up again with ya Paul, diggin Mutt the angry duck for sure!

Are you still getting rid of the back seat, for a dog kennel? When is that coming into the plan?

Really like the "intimidation" factor the Mutt is taking on!

read your whole k5 thread and now this one and both are. great

props for that dilligence! even perusing the pics of the K5 one probably takes a bit... i know it takes me a while to look thru my photobucket album..

anyway, thanks man!

all I can say is, I'm very pleased with buying the angry mallard... he's perfect for the rig... :haha:

the back seats been out since I put it on the road.. right now it hauls my tool bags, etc...

the plan is to try and find Malachi around x-mas/jan... :saweet:

I'll build the kennel next summer, starting with the floor, than divider, gang plank, watering, bed, etc... hmmmm, need to figure out what composite to build the gang plank out of...

got a nice roadtrip to put on Mutt sunday, but sat I may try to finish up the speaker install..

so, every build has it's idea's that just don't quite work out... lesson learned, 4" lettering for windshield stickers is just too big.... well, in this case anyway...

Scott did an excellent job, I just should have ordered a 3" letter... I had to close up the letters/words way too much and even than I had to trim some on the right....

the other thing is, the color is just so far off.. I didn't think it was gonna be that light compared to the Ryoken red, but it is, and the pic makes it look even worse, than in person...

so.. for now i suppose I'll leave it.. but I'm definitely changing it.. the other prob i have, is running a sticker on the outside... even with a 3", the wipers are gonna catch it, and I'm sure f*ck it up eventually...

I think what I'm gonna do is make my own stencil out of contact paper, and paint it on the inside of the glass in Ryoken red...

it's gone already, razorbladed off.. i just didn't like it, and it was mainly the color... it was so much more of a chevy orange.. it really made me realize for as orange as the truck looks, put it next to a regular orange, and it really looks dark..

I think a 3" sticker on the outside in a closer color would be good, but I'm gonna go for my idea instead I think... I'll pick up a roll of clear contact paper next time I'm shopping and start making a custom stencil at nights sitting around here.. no rush... I've done it that way in the past on vehicles, back in the day when I would also make, and spray my own window tint too...

ok, I had Scott do the sticker in a font referred to as "rubber stamp"

i don't think that one is going to work well for creating a cutout stencil due to the crazy edges..

so I'm looking for font suggestions from my more computer savvy brothers.. I've always kinda liked comic sans, tahoma and jester, but am open to all suggestions...

here's what Jester looks like, not sure I like it for this app..

I'm not one for graphics much, but here is a font called "Black Metal Sans" that sort of is in the category of comic sans...

not bad, that's a new one for me.. saved.. i like all caps for em I think...

Here is an image (not very good) of the black metal sans with Ryoken Red (I sampled your hood so it is exact)

and one with bigger letters, different spacing and no dots looks like it needs a slight arc to it

I agree the color was all off on the first version and the letters were way too big imo. I think it was over doing it. Personal taste thing obviously. A red that matches the truck with smaller letters would probably go much better. You want to show off that you built the truck yourself, but you don't want to yell it at people through a bullhorn on top of the roof either... so to speak. :)

of course, I'm not much of a sticker guy, so maybe I'm being to harsh. /shrug

Please don't use Comic Sans....

The truck is far too serious of a project and compilation of parts to be annotated with cartoon lettering. :). It's kind of like looking at a Charlie Brown "thought bubble" over the driver's (aka: your) head as you cruise down the road!

IMHO, a substantial block letter would be a better choice... I'd be curious to see something more subtle than red. Perhaps some sort of half-tone or even a light window tint film cut into the letters you want. That way it's not so "in your face" initially, but someone who's walking around the truck checking it out is sure to see it as a more subtle detail.

Your truck, your decision.... Just spitballin' a few ideas over a morning cup of coffee. :waytogo:

thanks for the opinions and suggestions guys... :D

and just for the record... I'm putting this on there, not for being proud, or bragging, about what I did, but more a poke at modern day society that has much more of a tendency toward the "Bought" mentality..

I know some of you guys live in areas where people can still appreciate, and drive vehicles like this regularly, but in my region, it's pretty rare.. most are new vehicles with shop installed lifts and motometals...

:haha: I did have a guy come up to me yesterday at the deli with a "cool duck" comment as I was getting out of the rig, he knew it from Convoy..

I don't care much for stickers and stuff either, that's just my preference...but I do like plates...are you required to run the real plate up front in Joysee?

yes...

I really don't consider this a sticker, and actually it technically wont be... ;) it's not like I'm running a giant ORD sticker on my fender or something, not that i have an issue with that..

Why not put in in the lower section of the rear window, it would still be there to see but won"t take away from the trucks clean look. Color matched on the rear tinted glass might be better. The trucks come along way and looks really good for a window banner, its yours tho do as you like.

I had never thought of painting the windshield on the inside...how do you get it to show though the embedded tinted visor strip in the windshield?
for many decades that is how signs were painted on glass though...particularly gold leaf...go to any old courthouse and all the glass doors have the signage painted on..
