Ryoken's 89 Crew Cab Tubebed build... aka Mutt....

thanks mang.. :D

from Sandy to my health scare to the stoopid workload from Sandy, the last 10 months or so have been, ummmm, challenging.... ;)

my best bud had gotten so used to me saying I was "staying home to work in the Dungeon", his jaw dropped when I said I would come this yr...

we're not bringing the bass boat... just gonna canoe fish, but it's always very relaxing and fun... hopefully it'll reenergize me some... :pimp:

I'm serious.... I'm doing 5% 'crystal tint' on my windshield.
Its crystal clear but, as advertised, only lets 5% UV in... :pimp:

My friend has it on his Dodge TowPig.
It's like sunglasses....

They do make several high end tints that you can put on windshields now. Most good films will block 99% of the UV.

My brother was just up at Tupper for Ranger school. Cool place.

best breakfast on the planet...

never heard of it.. I used to make custom window tint in Glasurit and spray back/qrter windows on my hotrods.. my blue 69 chevelle had a sprayed chevy bowtie in the graphics color in the back window... than custom tint cleared behind that, came out badarse.. but it's a process obviously where the glass has to be out..

Nice dash Good score.
Go enjoy that fishing trip.

thanks bud.... that's the other thing, when I get back, I'm gonna bang my bosses for a couple bucks more an hr.. they owe me a raise HUGE anyway, and this post Sandy run put that WAY over the top...

need parts bad... :haha:

Tint the windshield.

I can't remember the name of it, but there is some kind of colorless "tint" out there that cuts all the UV and blocks almost all of the radiant heat from the sun.." I recall it being pretty expensive, but maybe it would still be worth checking out? Could be the last dash pad you ever need to buy....

There is a YouTube video out there somewhere with a demo. Sorry I'm so short on specifics.

Ryoken, did you pull the headliner out through the front passenger door? Is there any need to remove the seats when you take the headliner out? I need to do mine too. Great build!

thanks, outstanding question...

it doesn't fit great out the door openings.. ;) being my backseat is out, I brought it out the back door, just seemed easier... but even with the diagonal, I still had to bend the headliner a tad to get it out...

with the front seat out, it might go thru the front door openings without the slight bending... either way, I didn't feel it would be an issue going back in...

i'll take some pics of the headliner gig when I cover it.. i'm actually uncertain what material route to take.. I just kinda assumed I would run a typical vinyl with a foam backer on it... but i'll have to walk around Fabricland and see what they have... :pimp:

not gonna do any fancy designs in this one or anything, just a straight recover..

Excellent man. Thanks for the help! When you use the SEM spray paint/dye, do you use the SEM soap and/or the SEM vinyl prep spray? Sorry to take your build thread off subject!

I just dyed my crew cab stuff napa red with the sem paint came out nice but used 2 cans of the stuff. I sprayed and scrubbed mine with simple green and then primed it with a generic(rustoleum or something)plastic primer. If I was to do it again I would use a darker primer for the red it took about six coats to cover. I took my headliner out the back too but again there were no seats in it. I await pauls decision on head liner material! I asked my wife 1 year ago to get me material (wholesale fabric!) and I still have a blue headliner......

I believe 3M Prestige Film, is what my buddy meant he has...

He said it was 3M, and they don't have a Crystal Tint.
But the listing for Prestige film fits his description.

nah, I'm cheap and oldschool...

you can never go wrong using a companies "recommended" products, but obviously we all know most of that is covering their arse and making more money...

I have used adhesion promoter in the past, and it can help.. degreasing, nah... all I EVER use on ANY project from gelcoating a boat to dying a dash to a show paint job is denatured alcohol..

in the case of interior parts that more than likely have had Armor-all douched on em for yrs.. a hot soapy bath.. than another... than a final damp towel/dry towel with denatured to make sure...

and not off topic at all, it just happens to be interior work at the moment..

I wish... they're ok, sometimes they just need a red hot poker to the eye... 2 are damn cool, the other is a pure psycho...

I actually played golf with my one boss tonight after work... dude ain't played in like 25 yr's and was smoking the ball.... :haha:

I'm only gonna make em give me 2 bucks.. really, I should probably get 5... and as with many people, with what my skillset actually deserves to be paid, they're probably $12 behind what I should be making....

find another marine mechanic on the east coast that can gelcoat a 60 footer and/or rebuild the rotating assembly on the same boat's mills...

sometimes they forget, take advantage and ignore what I bring to the table... time to nut up... if I wanted to be a douche, i'm sure they'd give me 5 if I threatened to quit, but i'll keep it friendly..

I certainly had enough job offers from other marina's in the spring at $5 more an hr than I make now.. but the grass isn't always greener... I get free healthcare.. not great, but I don't pay.. that's worth a few clams...

plus, for as much of a PIA as my one boss is to deal with, ya go somewhere else, and your bound to work with at least one douche...

plus it's 2 miles from the house, it'll never be more convenient than that...
