Ryoken's 89 Crew Cab Tubebed build... aka Mutt....

Yeah, the pitbulls would be awesome.

Good luck finding a good price on whichever you choose. Looking forward to seeing it even more beefed up!

I think Rockers are a little overkill for a mostly pavement rig.... I know kellyjohn drives hus Burb all over the place though and when we were talking to him out in Michigan he said he had about 25 k on them and they were still meaty.

oh yeah, rocker would be ridiculous overkill aggressive for a tow rig..

would look way cool prolly tho... :haha:

I want it to have some good offroad charachteristics, and I could get away with it nasty and poor tread wear for awhile, as it wont be heavily towed till much later when it get's the cummins and I retire from wrenching and start towing boats...

but the Baja is definitely the smart choice imo.. get a deal on like 20... tires for life.. :haha:

old original g/y mt tread = are old design and dot dates close to or over 10 years on a lot of them I have seen . lots of guys say suck in snow / mud . but wear like iron .

newer mt/r is a lot better if you ask me and newer design = newer tire life .

bfg would be my choice as I am just a bfg or cooper tire guy my self.

good... Baja is definitely what I'm gonna look for...

$175 for a 95, 100% from most places... think I'd like to get 8.. 7 on the truck and one as a rotational..

Speaking of 37-12.50-16.5 military tires, i had the old mt oz, baja bfg and the mtr on my hd. The baja i hated in any weather besides sun and rain..they suck in snow, the mt oz was better . The mtrs tho i have now and they seem to balance the best and are pretty quiet. The old mt oz wear really good and are cheap, decent all around tire but to ride only put at most 40 lbs in em. The mtr are doing good so far, i have 6,000 miles on them and they look un touched. I cant tell you how they are in snow because they will never see it since my welds do not see it..lol. They make the mtr and the baja in d or e ratings. I towed with both the mt and mtr, they do real good at 50 lbs.

Honestly tho the look of the mtr looks way better than the rest on 10 inch wide wheels...:D

that's the MTR right?

Sorry to pic whore it up...lol. Yea thats it....here is one on a 10 inch wheel. Those are deeper tread than mine tho. I daily drive it with these, no complaints. I got the on craigslist for 600.00, they seem pretty darn good so far. I did try balancing bags and hated them, these were spin balanced.

eh, time to decide, little ways from doing this... if all goes well, these will be an early x-mas present to myself at the beginning of dec/end of nov...

Compared to how much 37s are getting in bigger wheel sizes these are worth every penny. For the price and decent looking what more would you want...lol....yea cheaper...:haha: Thats why i picked up the welds, i needed something to take your eyes off the small wheels. I kinda like the look..:D

Those tho are real cheap, just have to watch for old dry ones. Look at the build date if you look at them. I think 2010 was the last year if im thinking right

don't think i'll even look at the older style... don't want no cracking.. it'd be between the mtr's and bajas...

those mt/r you posted pic on were like new or new by the mold lines still on the tread blocks.

last 4 diget of full dot will be date .

4509 = 45th week of 2009
2312 = 23rd week of 2012

get the idea . so when buying these tires look for newest dot dates.

I was never sure that the 1st 2 numbers in the code were, i always though it was month/day year. The way you have it tho makes more sense.

that's why you never should see more than 54 in the first 2 .

had to learn this all from years of installing tires when I worked in a shop .

the rest of the code is manufacture / plant / batch run / mold line / date made. all that kind of stuff.

good to know.. I noticed some of the eghey sellers will notate a yr or newer..

I'm kinda torn... the MTR's look cool with the sidewall. bit busier lug pattern, they look like they'd be good in rain and snow....

the Baja has nothing going on on the sidewall.. which can be a plus with the dually.. simpler lugs, looks better for possible siping/grooving...

pricing seems about the same...

like to get a set of at least 4 ASAP... be nice to have em for mockup on the tubebed deal.. the axle will be getting hung as soon as it arrives.. along with shock mount and gooseneck plate.. but that could easily be mid-nov by the time they get here, me get to it, etc..

but the tires prolly wont happen till the end of oct moneywise... so I got a month to research/decide.. really my concern is mileage comparisons between the MTR and Baja..

but I'd love to have the tires mounted on the rear axle by dec... it would be nice to see how the actual tire to tire outer width is going to be in relation to the tubebed width.. don't want to make it any wider than I have too.....

but from kerts pics the setup looks just about stock.. the tires are pretty much under the lip.. gonna have to go with that as I'm about to finalize that outer bed tube width and don't want to delay the bed 4 to 8 weeks waiting on getting tires mounted...

and actually, i'll prolly only mount 3 rear tires up... fine for mockup while I send the 4th rim out to be copied... I can pick up another set of 4 tires in the spring..

oh, and of course.. the plan has changed a bit again... :doah: :haha:

being that a whole new suspension, shocks and gooseneck are going in.. the frame will have nothing on it but the rear x-member... so, it looks like I need to strip that raw and prime/paint it before the new suspension goes in...

which means I prolly should do it ASAP... if I start adding more tube to the bed, I can't get it off...

so it looks like I may repull the bed, start gutting the back of parts, breaking out some aircraft stripper and a fresh roll of 60 for the DA and get that stripped/primed/painted... than I can reinstall the bed..

so it's ready for all the new running gear and a final fab/build of the tubebed.. I'll prolly do the back of the cab/roof in the spring when I pull the fully built bed off for satin black paint..
