once the back is on the ground again, it'll be continued work on the tubebed, get the gooseneck plate in, etc...
putting in SRW hubs up front wont be till after the new yr for financial reasons... so that makes the spring work a bit more "not critical".. cuz I can't mount the tires anyway and could really do all that at once..
but if I get some free time from the tubebed, I'll get the front springs and shocks in to get a little ahead on that deal...

Why'd you paint the rotors?
I knew somebody was gonna say that...
they aren't painted, they're just dark.. I wirewheeled the rust off em and that's what they look like.. I'm sure the first brake check will brighten em up..
much slower progress today.. most of the day was spent straightening up the Lab and sandblasting/prepping the spring packs..
I was hemming and hawing on whether to use the heavier pack or the flexi pack.. decided to return the flexi's to the K5 and run the heavy pack that Kert was running...
this is just the setup somewhat positioned under there.. it all has to come out again so I can drill many holes for the hangars.. the custom hangars have holes under the rails that need drilling..
also the 2WD front frame hangars have a different bolt pattern, the "V" is narrower.. so I'm gonna use the front bolts to get the axle as far forward as possible.. than I have to drill the rears and the under rail ones...
that also puts the rear hangar a bit forward in the back, so I'll have to drill those too...
this is about ride height.. it's actually about 1.5" lower than it was sitting... gonna add a zero rate to it to move the axle forward another inch.. your kinda limited with the front hangar as the frame starts to slope right in front of it...

oh, and I really cut myself short for mudflaps... that's the main reason for trying to get the axle as far forward as possible.. WB, non queen mary turning radius, is another, but mainly it's flaps..

I could alleviate the issue by bringing the 1.5 back to right under the upper curve, having it straight down at that corner, but I'd rather not... it would probably look ok, but I really like the look of the same taper that the coffin has in back...

Angle the flaps, so all of the rock and debris fit right in the center of the Prius grill... .
hmmm, hadn't constempated that...
might want to just a tad, nothing crazy... but with a stiffener brace/frame deal, certainly might be able to move the bottom back a few inches and not look stooopid...

This may be a stupid Q, but why are you doing SRW in the front? Seems like it's more hassle / work AND you have the issue of wheel interchangeability. Or is there a good reason which you discussed and I missed?

same reason Kert did it IIRC, strictly cosmetic... I DESPISE the look of DRW front rims...
Fair enough. You can also stub your shins on them, as I recall. And the one-piece 2WD rotor-hub assy's were HEAVY.

yeah, splitting up the spare "capability" is definitely a logistic pain, no doubt...
but with the custom widened back rims, they wouldn't have been usable in the front no matter what... so that makes going SRW a no brainer..
haven't weighed a setup yet, but it's a bit hefty to get all the way up on the tubebed as planned fo sure..
but I'll manage, obviously in an emergency you'll do what you gotta do...

I always figured on carrying a front spare and not worrying about the back so much. The rears could be singled out if need be.
Lose a front and your still not entirely hosed, a rear could be made to work on the front for a limp it but it would stick out hugely.
Carry a front spare and it'd get you through most issues. It could be used in the rear as well.

wow... I just put one of the back beadlock ones on a bathroom scale.. not sure how accurate it is, but it said 146 lb's!
they feel it.... getting one down from the spare spot wont be too crazy on the road (thanks gravity!), but getting one up there will another story... I can lift it up into the bed, than prolly roll it up the tube into position,
but me thinks...
I'll be initially loading that b*tch up there with our Lull at work!
also... this just made me reconsider my spare mounting..
originally I was just gonna do a tube up off that x-tube, with a big gusset on each side and Kerts round spare tire mount on top..
now I'm thinking I'm gonna add a vertical tube from that tube up to the center node of the C-hoop, and a third gusset on it to the short mount tube...
