Ryoken's 89 Crew Cab Tubebed build... aka Mutt....

Are you cutting the copes after cutting the tube to length or just cutting a hole out of the middle of the pipe so you do two ends at once?

I also have a spare set of torches if you want to use them. I bought my own and then my uncle gave me some when he moved to FL a couple years ago.

thanks.... i'll be done using the torches tomorrow, only have 1 bend left... it's just something I need to take care of, every 3 or 4 months it comes up where I would like to have tanks.. just have to remember that the next time I have $400 kicking around.. :doah: :haha:

all I've done so far is a couple test cuts on small scraps cut off the ends of the bent pieces.. basically a 1/2 cut.. that's probably how I would do it anyway.. too much waste using a 2" to make 2 at once..

that was something I hadn't realize when I went to pick up the rod, was how much I was gonna need for the uprights.. 30 of em, final height of 2" means i'll probably be cutting 3" slugs.. that's 90' of rod..

Speaking of fuel tanks, I've been wanting to share this pic with you after that fuel discussion took place earlier in this thread.

The died diesel is less expensive here and I've heard of a few folks getting nailed by the state troopers for running it in 1-tons. Car hauling folk mostly. The only way that I know of to avoid that ticket is to have a farm tag/plate.

Anyhow, I don't have a farm tag on the blazer or the durdge but I also don't plan on getting a ticket. I think I'll just hold on to this pic and the true claim that this helps provide lubricity that is lacking in the newer fuels. It just so happens to be... red.
That actually doesn't work.
It's true you see the fuel look red when you add tge ATF but the test strip they use will not show anything but it will from the die

Yep, it's die, and it effects the test strip.

Also, farm tags won't help you. Even farms tag have to run on road diesel.

If you buy a torch setup make sure you go all in and get a smith. Ive been using a Victor for years and Im not saying everything they make is worthless but their cheap stuff is garbage. The Smiths cut nice and smooth.

BTW I think your front wheels are wagons not D windows.

hmm, I always remembered Victor being the bees knees, but not surprising that they've come out with some cheaper cr@p... this is Arco stuff, I'm sure it's not high-end, but for the 3, 4 times a yr I need it, I'm sure it would suffice.. I could also look to get a nicer body down the road...

just got back from there.. oxy, some cutoffs and some nasty 16 grit fiber discs later... :pimp: heating the Lab™ and getting ready to go....

and yup, great eye.. :waytogo: after checking them, they are triangle windows, not D's... have to double check BS, but I'm betting they are these... 16.5 x 9.75 x 4.75 bs... http://www.summitracing.com/parts/usw-70-6980/overview/

90 inches
:waytogo:

eh, all good.. my dizzle talk brought it up.... now if I can just find that wrecked dudge.... :haha:

going at it... all the bends are done... working on the back corners...

just gonna use straight cut 2" slugs... as mentioned the gaps are minimal and will help welding... should make things go MUCH faster.. :woot:

Any person who uses dyed diesel fuel in a motor vehicle on the highways of this state in violation of this act.

No, they are breaking the law and subject to fine. They are just choosing to do so.

Sorry for the derail.

Martin
Man, I hope that made you feel better, Martin. I'm aware of the law & I wasn't saying that you were wrong in the first place. At first glimpse, it's red because I add ATF. FWIW, we still run the lower cost fuel in the ton & lower farm trucks... even in the Freightliner that we deliver hay with be ause they rarely see the highway. Most troopers/MDOT here know it's about nothing but BS tax revenue that will be mis-spent anyhow so they're nice & intelligent enough to know that their ticket won't do much of anything.

Nice builds, Paul. Sorry for the thread-jack-ish conversation. The CC is looking awesome but, personally, I would love to see that blazer wheeling already! What can I say? I'm just a blazer nut.

Happy new year!

well, it's about priorities, and Mutt became more of a priority than the K5.. I'll be back on that one next winter...

did a lot of bouncing around today... once the back corner pieces where bent, I decided that I needed to start seeing how the "ends" where going to work out... mitered rod ends, 4 all together..

so I jumped to the tailgate to get that mocked up before I finish the 2 back corners... here's how the gate is gonna look...

thanks... :D

it's always about coin.. I'm always willing to find the time, and put the effort in.. it's whether I can afford the toys and materials... :haha:

and that will apply over the next 3, 4 months too.. I'll have enough time off that I could finish finish the tubebed.. new fuel tank, tool boxes, alum, dual bats, he!! even the tow lights and custom tailights.....

IF someone just gave me 5 g's to buy the stuff... :doah: :haha:

thanks.. yup, solid 7/8 round rod... good weekend and I should have it all burned in and in primer......
