Ryoken's 89 Crew Cab Tubebed build... aka Mutt....

The side views are sorta "Meh, it's just a flatbed, I've seen other trucks like that" ... and then the rear view, you go, "GawDAYUM!" :haha: Between the crazy tires and realizing the scope of that tubebed, it's an attention-getter for sure. You should consider renaming the truck "Sneak Attack Of Awesome" :D

thanks guys.... from the side it looks stoopid without the doors.. heck, the whole thing looks kinda skeletal silly without the panels...

gimme a couple days to get em burnished and bolted up and it should change DRAMATICALLY..

the sucky parts is the parts you see the most, from the side and rear will be done last, the side doors and taillight panels...

it'll look killer from an overpass tho! :haha:

straightening out the LAB™ a bit and may see about sanding a couple panels as it's finally spring out...

I am pretty good at imagining car things done. That's gonna look killer.

It does look incomplete now but duh it is.

Really nice man.

The real question how ya gonna make mud flaps cool?:haha:

tanky gents....

here's a taste of what they're gonna look like...

outer tubegate panel in....

the inner flush panel isn't done yet, but here's the ss hardware I went with for the latches...

Jealous of how awesome this thing is going to look . . . even for a dually. IMO it's hard to make those things look cool but you are definitely pulling it off. Not jealous of the amount of time you have into that bed though, I wouldn't have the patience to work on something like that for so long. How many man hours you have into it so far?

my n*ts hurt just thinking about lifting that thing.

Can't wait to see it driving again...I didn't realize it had been that long. :waytogo:

thanks guys... :D

I always say I'm gonna log hr's going into a big project like this, and never do... if I had to guess, I'd say it's between 500 and 600 hr's as of now... closer to 5 tho...

it was simple getting it out the door, getting it from the sawhorses to the frame was tedious.. would have been nice to have 6 guys for that... or the Lull from work... :haha:

I'll be working on the alum panels thruout the week at night... so hopefully next weekend it'll be looking much more "complete"

gonna do the front zero rate next weekend... and maybe throw some temp taillights in it so I can start cruising it around a bit the following Monday...

I feel like Shawn this weekend... :haha: friggin killed it.. got SOOOOOOOO much done... brake job on DD, Mutt running, back wall thru paint, tubebed out and on.... pretty good spring cleaning on the LAB™, yada, etc...

so do you think the color scheme is working out good?

in a way, the black tube is MORE dramatic to me, cuz it highlights the alum panels more than red tube would have IMO...

I also love the look of the alum wetsanded with 400 than scuffpadded with the same...

and for those that notice the obscure.... I sat outside last night in the dark and painted my rear shackles Ryoken red... bourbon was involved....

SICK-TASTIC!!!!

I rolled up BOTH of my garage doors today for the first time since September 2014...... It was an amazing weather day here too! Man, does it feel good to work in the sunshine again. :)

Red probably would make it look more matchy matchy, but the black isn't hurting anything!
I don't know, I thought this was a little safer.. tougher, more "work" orientated/looking...

it's also the perfect break up to match the rims..... red/black rim, red cab/black tube.. and the alum breaks it all up...

and actually... that's not a complete absurd future mod too... :haha:

I do actually have to pull the tubebed off to install the custom tank at the end of the summer, so it's not like it couldn't be done in a long weekend at some point down the road...

with of course, the Lull down at the marina on standby... pull the 8 bolts... lift off.. everything can be disassembled with an allen on a driver or ratchet easy peezy... an advantage of the welded nut deal..... scuff it down... overcoat with RR... assemble....

voila,

CIRCUS WAGON !!!!! :pimp: :haha:

next fab work.. mini wooden 1/2 pipe.....

oh, the only downside to changing bed color is it takes about a gallon of paint to shoot that jungle gym... :doah:
