Ryoken's 89 Crew Cab Tubebed build... aka Mutt....

oh, and when I get to it, I'll be running synth and alum fairlead.....

not a full skidplate gig..

just an alum fairlead like bolted up on the K5..

like this one...

in my infinite stoopidi, errrrr wisdom, of keeping the tubebed tight to the rear winch x-member/mount has meant that the fairlead and license plate packaging must be kept tight and thin... in order to not interfere with the tubegate opening..

so i'll be mounting that directly to the lower winch bolts...

That's cool too!
And my Mom had a 68 Cougar brand new! My dad bought it the day I was born...can't wait to see the tail lights working! :thumb:

yeah, I'm way revved up on getting the taillight panels in.. moreso than the side doors... tho I may actually start fitting up side doors tomorrow a bit... check on how the latches are gonna work/look....

even tho I don't have to do the sequencer right away, the main work is hacking holes in a panel you just took hr's to make... :doah: :haha:

I'll try to sneak it in and just wire it once.. it's another $75... and I think the design for the lights is just gonna be right...

obnoxious, yet perfect... :pimp: :saweet:

but I hope those alum panels don't end up being the most challenging and frustrating part of this project.....

Mutt's temp legal running gear....

mang, can't get away from them heep lights! :doah: :haha:

just gotta wire those up and move the front axle....

Just got caught up from the weekend updates. Those mud flaps don't look half bad. I was worried how they were going to blend with everything.

Can't wait to see this thing with those LED's!

it was as "non ghey" as I could make them... :haha: I'm fine with them...

gotta see about picking up that 1/8 alum for the bent panels this week ... probably wont order lights till may 1...

but at least I should be driving it after next weekend hopefully..

it'll be nice to get the mallards wings out in the breeze.....

he looks even more cantankerous & cancerous these days if that's at all possible, after sitting in that driveway all winter... :pimp:

now what? :dunno:

ready to bend.... no crue.. it's pretty easy to bend I think... my bigger issue at the moment is

my infinite stoooopidity... :doah: :woot:

in one of my "end of weekend that I just killed it what should I finish off doing" moments of shear........... ignorance..

I put the taillights in... where's it look good? oh, tack weld the plate bracket, yada... well, I noticed at the end of the day, the lights are up into the plane of where the panel will sit... :doah:

100_1757_zpseijnqvbz.jpg

so every time I try to mock in the panel, I have to unbolt the light, than BEND the bracket forward.. reverse, rinse... :doah:

fug all that, sat I'm cutting em off and lowering them...

first after I cut em, I'm gonna try to bend one side of the alum up first and see how it goes...

if I have the lights by fri/mon, it's conceivable to just not bother with the heeps and go right to the real deal over the next 2 weeks or so if they are coming together good...

if it looks longer, I'll reweld the heeps on lower..

Glad to see I'm not the only one that has those moments. Have a great day or two of working on the rig then come up with other things that you can do since you have more time...few days later :doah:"fock why did I go ahead and do that now it needs removed"

Thought you weren't ordering lights till May 1st? :deal:

Just couldn't resist huh? :woot:

I rearranged the next few rig fundings... I bumped off getting the other sheet of 1/4" for the lower boxes.. i'll ride up to Fazzios after the 4th of july or something...

I had to prioritize.. the panel is $250.. plus I need $150 more in panel mount tabs from Kert, before I can think about building the lowers..

gotta get the 4 bents, including lights, in and the doors, #1... have to get what's "there" to look complete before I move on to the lowers and doghouse.. even the doghouse takes priority over the lowers...

the sides/rear are everything to how this looks to 91.3% of the world...

AS I'M BACKING OVER THEIR PRIUS!!!! :haha:

no harm, no foul.. couple key cuts with a cutoff, and I ripped it off with my mongoloidish mitts...

I do gotta say... :thinking::thinking::thinking:

if I can pull this off, I'll have to treat myself to a real NICE bottle of bourbon.... :doah: :pimp1::deal:

So, what's the plan? Just bend it and bolt it to hold the shape, or are you going to try to get it to hold the correct shape on it's own? If so, how?

I'm gonna form it so it retains it's shape... not sure yet how.. thinking just a concrete sonotube.. or one filled, worst case... most convenient first attempt... than lumber..

it's 1/8 it'll bend pretty easy, and also retain it for the most part... if it needs to "draw" in to the mounts a little bit, that's fine...

but even mounting isn't any easy one here.. the back are only set up for 3 mounts right now.. plenty to hold it from going anywhere.. but a fourth added will be nice for asthetics..

also, using the same black countersinks is more challenging too, as the metal is 1/8", not 1/4" like the rest... i'll actually have to chamfer/countersink the steel mount a tad....

I would think I'd be fine just manually bending that... pretty sure I can just do it with my palm and maybe a little help from a rubber mallet..
