Ryoken's 89 Crew Cab Tubebed build... aka Mutt....

Aw the summertime show and shines. I think you should drop it in. I go to 2-3 shows a year with my pops. I can say my faves are the rigs that are still driven or working. Even the dirty little rat rods get my attention cause they are generally from a working mans budget and ability to find something and make it work in a cool way. Those, as yours does, gets the perspective outside the box thoughts flowing.

I dont hate on the good guys show cars at all but you can only look at so many belairs with 582's in them and the only diff is the color on the outside and the tommy bahama Hawaiian shirt the owner is wearing.

these are the types that I worry, well, not really, but it's the "100 point" type guys that want to just come around and pick anything apart they can that I can't be bothered with......

the engine compartment is blah, the paint isn't perfect, there are dings and minor dents I didn't fix.. that was the plan.. when I'm done with the rig i'll go back in and fix all that stuff, block it out and give it a final overcoat... but it has a great stripped base, which is what I cared about..

and I'm fine with all that...

it's more the concept of the whole build that Mutt is about.. it seems like the public is appreciating it, just not sure how that crowd will be.. we'll see, I know they do a big one in the fall, not sure about the earlier one... heck, maybe I'll have a bunch of the projects done for the fall one..

it's not a big deal at all, not something I've really thought about, it's a tow/service rig, not a muscle car... I can certainly do without it, but as I said, with all the attention/response, I almost feel obligated to kinda put it out there...

might try and sneak in the spare tire purchase next week...

was in Vatozone picking up a new wash mitt today ( my 30 yr old one finally sh*t the bed   ) and decided to try out an "off the shelf" electronic flasher.. they didn't have an adjustable one..

but it does seem to have slowed it down a bit and given them a bit better pace.... but I'm still gonna do an adjustable and slow them down some more..

also wired in the control wires to get rid of the ghey brake "burst" deal...

Ryoken - going to play his first round of Goof tomorrow with 2 broken fingers.... :woot: :doah:  :haha:haven't swung a club at all in 6 months.. 107, or 92? place your bet's.. :haha:

thanks.... it's definitely very acceptable and I'm in no rush to change it.. but I figure throwing an adjustable in to see different speeds at some point can't hurt.. I can always set it at this speed in the end...

still need to hook up the reverse lights...

Awesome-sauce!!!

As if the truck wasn't noticeable enough just on its own.... You've got the motion of the sequenced lights to arrest people's attention! :D

Not that this is a democratic build process, but I'd vote for a bit slower sequence as well. I think it would just be a bit better paced and dare I say "rhythmic"?

One of the super-OCD things that I eventually want to do when I get LED tail lights on my own build is to find a way to program the "decay" of the LED to emulate a traditional incandescent bulb. I don't mind that the LED illuminates instantaneously, but for some reason I don't like the "instant blackness" effect that they give when they shut off. I'm sure there is a way to wire them so that they fade-to-black in maybe 1/4 to 1/2 seconds instead...more of a decaying red glow.

I know, I know....that's a pretty in-the-weeds detail to even worry about. But I want what I want. :D

:haha:

the instant on/off deal doesn't bother me much.... but I'm not crazy about how they look during the day, due to the angle, LED directionalness and especially the individual bulb look of LED's...

I'd really like to "diffuse" the lenses and see if that gives it bit more of an incandescent look... problem being they are sealed, so I'd have to do it externally.. I may pick up a sacrificial one at some point and see how it looks with lenses either wetsanded dull, or glassbeaded....

as to the speed... I just tend to think it might look better if the sequences kinda flowed more... right now it's sequence. stop. sequence. stop. plus I think the sequence would be more pronounced...

that should work well.... I'm gonna run some of his diffused lense ones up on the C-hoop for my work lights..

to be honest... this tells how little I usually care about reverse lights.. I don't even know where it get's it's signal... I'm assuming there's a wired switch/sender in the 465, but I haven't even looked yet.. :doah:  :haha:

hmmmm, wtf... just went down and looked, nothing on that box electrically...... the only thing I saw is what I assume is my "4x4" indicator out of the 205.... which isn't even plugged into anything...

where the he!1 else would a manual "know" it was in reverse? :dunno:

There's usually a switch on the trans that the R position hits.

yup, that's where it's at, thanks guys... just couldn't see it, had to feel for it... need to get a plug for that and wire it in...

I think that turned out just about perfect myself. Much better without the brake burst too.

As far as the reverse lights go, I'm just the opposite. I love having lots of light back there. Backing up a trailer when it's super dark is a pain, especially if I have to hit the brakes just so I can see what I'm doing. :doah:

I like the turn signals. Very cool effect. Are the hazards sequential also?

yeah...

until the hazard switch in the column esploded... had to impale it with a screwdriver just to get em to turn off... :doah: :haha:

at some point this summer I'll pull the wheel and put a whole new turn signal in...

You can get the reverse switch plug and pigtail from LMC.

Now come to think about it, I think when I bought a new switch locally it came with the plug and pigtail. :dunno:

Btw Its the same switch as the 4wd indicator in the transfercase.
