Ryoken's 89 Crew Cab Tubebed build... aka Mutt....

And if more than the rig itself was needed it gives insight into the personality behind the wheel.

exactly the reasoning behind it all....... that's why the skate stuff is on there.. a blend of my interests...

on a semi-related note... vision is fine during the day.... with that limo tint, at night, not so much... :haha:

Mutt, being blue collar today..... flagwaver

had 4 cedar's come down this winter.... about a 1/2 dozen loads like this to the dump down the street.....

well, it's official... I waited 33+ yr's for this day..... :deal:

my junk no longer needs to be inspected! :saweet: too bad I was going dizzle anyway and not putting a nasty lopey mill in Mutt! :doah:

hmmmmmm, I may have to re-evaluate the K5 build now that it wont need a sticker.....

I'm curious how this affects the lift laws. 38s and 8" lift to the door sill are still on the books. I've seen some diesels w/ 42s and 44s on the road since they quit diesel inspecitons. A cop could still stop them and issue. They could even impound for unsafe lifted vehicle if they really had a bug up their ass.

Never thought I would live to see this day, and I dont even live there amymore

yeah, right? if you had told me in the 70's, this would be the end result of mv inspections I'd have laughed... as a hotrodder, it's been the #1 nemesis my whole life....

That is just awesome news

giddy, I am, I am.... I haven't gotten the letter for the 91 yet... that just passed in the fall anyway...

yeah, I'm not sure what the deal is... I'm surprised they still have any tilt test.. if they can't afford the sniffers, you'd have thought that would have went away first...

yup, 38 is technically the max tire you can run... honestly, the cops don't bat an eye at Mutt with it's 37's and 7"... and technically, it should be tilt tested..

but there are ton's of obnoxious new rigs around.. there's a guy on my way to the marina with like a 2 yr old Furd or something that's on like 47's or something.. might even be 50+... totally illegal, not sure how them guys get away with it...

So I just finished reading the entire thread....took a couple weeks lol. Mutt is amazing, totally my dream truck! And once it's cummins powered it'll be even more awesome!!

I bought a running 96 12v 4x4 nv4500 for my swap in my truck and pulled the drivetrain and sold the rolling chassis for almost what I paid for the whole truck.

you'd think MI being the motor state we would have inspections up the azz, but I've never had to have an inspection on any vehicle!
Paul congrats on finally becoming free!

thanks man, been a fun project so far... turns a ton of heads... props for plodding thru this novel.... if you've got a couple months, my K5 one is the War and Peace of builds.... :doah: :haha:

I'm hoping I can find a donor rig like that in the 3 g range with that package...

That was the best thing about the 83' I just bought, they let me sling antique plates on it so no more inspection.
trucks looking good as usual man, like seeing it put to work

cool. that's actually from the end of one of the vid clips I posted in that other skate thread I have going.... the thing about those gif's I ran/run is those where actually sequenced photos from the 70/80's mags.. ya know, a Minolta with a speed thingy on it... I would put them individually into an older photoshop I had and make em into GIF's...

nope... if GVRW is over 10,000lb exempt from lift laws... considered self inspect. I am trying to figure out those laws as I want to find a crew cab @ 12k gvrw...

ryoken - what is the gvrw of mutt?

and as I posted in my thread...
yes depending on GVRW puts you in a certain list.
my 8400gvrw puts me... 11" over stock including tires/lift height.

so my 6" lift and 40's (measure at 38.8") are kinda legal. I say kinda as you are supposed to be 38" measured but guy inspected me with these and I have the tilt papers for it so nanny nanny pooo pooo u cant fail me...

...

I'm pretty sure you can register at ANY weight you want above stock.... Mutt could have reg'd at like 6200 lb's for cheap (as the girl suggested I do), but I pay more and Mutt is reg'd at 8000 currently.... that legally allows me to run 38's..

I'll be redoing that at a higher weight when I finish the work and tag it commercial for hauling and such...
