Ryoken's 89 Crew Cab Tubebed build... aka Mutt....

so.....

hopefully, the easy aspect of the upcoming project will be the tool/part dividers... I'm really hopeful that my idea for removable divider units will work well... i think if i can get into some good magnet bottom on certain drawers, and a non-slippy rubber deals for others, it will work REALLY well...

ordered a bunch of consumables tonight... and worked out that i have 42' of divider material to work with..... that should do the following 4 setups, plus another 2 different configs as slip-in backups if I come across different needs......

these were just some initial different ideas... i may adjust spacing and such when i actually lay it out and mesh tools, boxes, prybars, etc.. repeat a drawer... need a couple long skinny ones for prybars and such, ones for plastic tool cases, larger, "general" parts ones, couple small nick/nack ones, etc... as long as i have intersections, it can be made easy enough...

oh.... just gave myself a Mutt goal..... :doah: let's call it a resolution! :woot: :saweet: :doah:  :haha:

I want the bed equal ds to ps, by fall.... that includes belly pans, fuel tank, drawers and ps bat box with front steps.....

I won't have the dual bat setup done (too much $$$$ in components), but i want the ps to match the ds side.. that also doesn't include the receiver hitch which will have to come later...

some other initial build babble going into this is preparing ALL of what I'm about to do, for a final finish to hold up as long as possible.. that means properly cleaning, sanding, polishing and Sharkhyding everything that i don't want to have to go back to later.. this includes the entire drawer assemblies, inside and out, the bellies and also the main panel undersides, doghouse, fuel tank........

and trust me.. that will all be an ABSOLUTE fugton of labor...... :doah: :pimp:

amd in all seriousness... I think from my time in this forum most know, it's not the labor needed to complete my brain pics, it's always the $$$$.... :angry1: :angry1:  :angry1: :( :( :(:haha:

I've sat in the bathtub drunk wetsanding rims at 2:38 in the morn...... :o effort is never the issue... :doah: :screwy: :saweet: :doah: :yikes: :haha:
The random add a part style thrash that your threads do has always entertained me...

most of the time it ends up being the final "work thru" of an original concept.. that I maybe had 15% worked out initially, in my brain pic...

but as you work thru the details.. it gets.... ummm, complex, usually... ;) oh, and without a doubt, EXPENSIVE, with my tastes in materials... :doah: :doah: :doah: :dunno: ;)

fug.... I think my sig pics are gone forever... not sure i saved those..

just finished taking the drawers totally apart... prepping for initial chaff dispersal... ;)

that's weird.. went in to my sig part to delete the links to those sig pics, and it doesn't show any links... guess i'll try deleting it all and redo it later to speed it up...

edit - gone now! ;)

chaff has been deployed....

hopefully that keeps the SA2's to a minimum....

for as much as I want to start burnin those in, tomorrow I start to figure out my cleaning, prepping, polishing methods first..... gotta see how the Sharkhyde cleaner part is going to work out... hopefully any sanding prior to polish will be minimum.. I want to have the insides of the boxes all done when i weld the tops on... that way i can just clean that joint afterward as opposed to the whole inside......

Wow, that's going to be a TON of welding, will be sweet when you get it done.

don't remind me.... :doah:

28' :yikes:

we'll see how that goes... I could certainly use the spool gun practice.. just wish i knew TIG... ordered a couple spools and a bunch of contact tips last night..

to be honest, for as much as i'd like it to have perfect TIG like the rest of the beads, it's not needed.. at all... it's non-structural and completely unseen once the belly pans are in... so it's super hard for me to justify paying someone to lay perfect TIG in there, to satisfy my OCD... :haha:
