Ryoken's 89 Crew Cab Tubebed build... aka Mutt....

so #2.... ;)

obviously at this point I've decided to keep my light wiring external for now....

gonna run loom from the upper ps C-hoop down to the bed and inboard... maybe 5'... I'm not afraid to run a straight thru like watertight or hose, etc, but with the ends exposed/taped, etc, I don't feel it's worth it.. just looking for a non-obtrusive, black, tight wrap for going down the C-tube... obviously whatever i use will need some tie straps to the tube... but I'm thinking about a weave, wrap..

anyone use something like this stuff for cable management?

It looks like the Painless Powerbraid sample that came with my wire kit at less than 1/3 the price. Specs look similar too.

The sample I have is pretty nice to use and much better than the cheaper crap I have. Obviously I am not sure of the quality/longevity though, but I would try it at that price.

does it seem to "self-curl", or have some bit of "velcro-ness" ;) to it?

del city has quite a few choices in split loom... including

https://www.delcity.net/store/Grip-Wrap-Sleeving/p_822106.h_822107

this was the actual stuff i was looking at.. i'm hoping 3/4" dia ends up being the size of the bundle in the end.. that's why i wanna wait till i have the lights on after paint to order sumfin.....

i'd have to order 25'.. but it has a hook/loop deal going on... but at $50 or so, I'd want to have some good use for it...

probably one of the most annoying things I've ever shot... :doah: that's paint #2.... it'll get it one more time in a few yrs.. after the 6BT is in and the bat box/step stuff is done on the ps...

now the fun begins.... :saweet: assembling, wiring, etc... couple weeks it should be looking good....

goop going on.....

figured out a neat way to utilize the unused terminals in the buss bar in the lightbar for worklight #1, 2, 3 to streamline the harness wiring... repolished it.. the lenses where pretty sun hammered.. think I'm gonna run some colinite wax on it this yr.. if that proves undurable, i'll look into headlight coatings and such.. which I'm leary of... i don't mind going in and redo-ing them every 3 to 5 yr's, but... annual, nah...

next up, dress beads of black polyurethane, aka 3M 5200......

.

my body shop budy told me wet sand the dome/lenses like your color sanding paint and buff like paint . brings them back real good for a lot less of new lenses .

oh, it's tits again.. didn't need wetsanding.. just a decent clearcoat compound and finesse it on a wheel... i'm concerned with making them stay that way...

You made them beads perty...unlike your seam sealer on the blazer bed :haha:

Your Blazer is secretly jealous of all the attention that Mutt is getting.

don't remind me.... but Mutt's project is relentless in it's thirst for bada$$ery.... the K5 is patient and will be rewarded... or I'll be dead...

I do like my undercarriage tho.. ;)

wanted to keep it dainty.. it'll dull out a bit... I left short sections at the 2 corners for drainage.... anyone who's worked with that stuff will testify, you'll end up wearing 1/2 of it if your not careful.. it's like windshield adhesive....

sh*t's flying tho.. projects rockin all over... more caulking and panel installs tomorrow... I still need to coat the tail light panels and gas doors.. reassemble the doghouse...... disassemble and install the drawers, bellys, low box, yada.. get the light wiring going...

but I'm stoked and trying to get at least an hr a day... and pound days off as much as Kai/life allows.... life needs Kai swim time at the park this time of yr.... that and Molson's with ball toss in the yard for sanity....

ftr... I'm really annoyed with myself for feeling rushed enough, to not do the custom flag holders... wont use em often, but I think certain occasions/days it'll be fun...

I'm still thinking it may be a sept weekend project.... put down some cardboard/lumber/moving blankets and just bang it out... should be minimally invasive and just mask/reshoot 1 1/2 tubes per side..... you should barely see them without flags.. but I held off cuz I want to have flag poles and sleeves here prior.. that's a goofy $78 mcmaster bible order, I didn't feel like splurging on...

I'm also anxious to see if my idea for drawer lighting will be doable.. i won't know till I reinstall... but i wanted those top panels caulked first..

I'm by no means any kind of paint/body guy but can you just clear coat your light to protect it after getting it polished like you want?

probably.. but it's a commitment, as opposed to a wax...or even thin sealant..... like a ceramic, etc.. a commitment i'm not ready to make.. it literally takes 5 minutes to pull the lenses for a fresh polish... and maybe 15 minutes per side... it is a dissimilar substrate, it could check over time i suppose, etc.. than you're screwed other than sanding it off... but i'm not up on the latest and greatest coatings on plastic lenses.. been meaning to ask over in psycho car detailer group on FB about headlight treatments......

i ordered some collinite insulator wax for friday..

got most of the bed back together.. drawers, tubegate, bellypan, etc....

only things left are the mudflaps, doghouse and lightbar/wiring....

random chit....

and my drawer light idea should be good... there's enough room between the boxes and doors to mount either 4 individual rigid led lightbars tucked up in front of them pointing down.. or flexible if i have to.... it really should have a full length tab/shelf welded out to attach to, but i can add those down the road, and just do a quickie install in the meantime if I want..
