Ryoken's 89 Crew Cab Tubebed build... aka Mutt....

wish i could.... there are multiple things that will make it goofy... one it really hinders the turn signal view.. it's WAY tight in that regard to begin with.. it was an issue when I first built the bumper, and it will just get worse... two, it will look goofy height-wise with the grill/toptube/GMC, in addition to the standard valance issue...

I won't let it stop me if I really feel like it will be a huge benefit... and i would just see what it looks like for a bit first before corrective surgery... ( i want to go back in anyway and add angle tops on the 2 sides anyway) heck, i was even looking at if i felt i could get away with doing the cab, and NOT the bed...

we'll see.... just trying to think of all the things I think I may come across...

If I've learned anything in the last 10 years, every truck presents different problems. I can swap and convert all these trucks every day and not have the same recipe. Every owner wants something different from their trucks.
With something as complex as a repower you cant expect it to go as planned.

Body lift wont affect AC compressor issues, assuming the AC compressor is mounted in the stock location on the Cummins. Either need to notch the frame on the passenger side, or go with the compressor mount that places it up higher by the alternator.

For ease of later repairs and not dealing with the frame, the other bracket is the easier way to go.

i was actually talking box.. but yeah, accessories up front too... ;) wait till you hear the insanity i have planned for up there..... :screwy: I could use the space...

the one thing I'm tossing around is, would i be better off looking at going aftermarket on the AC down the road? vintage air or whatever it's called... dinero aside... would it be a more space-efficient unit, that cools as well or better than the stock monster?

It is basically a flat firewall and really open over there. I think it cools better than OEM because it is a better compressor. Mine never turns off.
Vintage air is 20 minutes from me and I met a guy there who is in to squares. We shot the shit for a little while and might get into rear ac for the crew cab. No headliner or anything in my truck makes it super hot and takes a while to cool it. We might have a super cold crew cab option.

Here's the pic from the last one I installed.

Ah gotcha. Airbox clearance will depend on how high and towards the rear you place the engine. That's one of the things I like about the Isuzu diesel I'm swapping in, the exhaust is on the driver side.

Good question on the AC, something I'm curious about as well if a aftermarket system would be better than piecing together the older setup

i knew they freed up space, but didn't know the whole engine bay side was eliminated... i'm gonna look into them further..

I didnt do a body lift on mine, I did have to massage the firewall just a little bit but not bad. That vintage air set up he has is my dream set up for the crew cab... just need to find 1600 bucks

AC feels colder, how about the heat?

Never used it. Tried it to check that it worked and it was hot af.
I use the heat for about 3 weeks a year in the mornings. I'll have some feedback in February.

i'm sold..... even if it's 2 g's in the end, I'm gonna plan on it.... to free up that much firewall space, it's a no-brainer for my OCD.... it'll get put in after the swap... but I'll ditch the factory stuff during the swap to ease the install... i can do without for a bit if need be...

noice... i have enough other plans for the engine bay that the space will be well worth it..

heck, i drop 2 g's on stoopider schtuff than that all the time... ;)

last AL batch.. stoked.. hope i don't run out of Sharkhide... :doah:

the epitome in my life... the last 2 per se, and most challenging... I'm tempted to use a 6' paint pole and sheetrock thingy with a maroon scuffpad on it!!!!!

i just fugged up my welder.... sigh...

man, I'm bummed.... that's gonna be 3, $400 I don't have prolly... but have to do... prolly took out the board... wasn't thinking when swapping from spool to wire feed and hit the toggle swiitch with the machine on.. won't power up now...

I'm already scrambling getting the mill paid for and trying to get the CC's in check... throw in the driving 15 miles each way to deal with it during working hr's... 1 step forward, 2 3/4 back... fuggin stoopid is, as stoooooopid does... :(

I think what bugs me the most is the immediate halt in Mutt's process... gonna put getting to paint a week behind at least....
