Ryoken's 96 Furd twofiddy

Iirc, the front cab bolts are thru-bolts. I did a '96 cab swap onto an '87 frame, but that was nearly 20 years ago.

cool... i saw they actually sell that sheetmetal, the cab supports.... mine have some rust, but aren't horrible on first inspection.... both inner rockers have a 2 golf ball size hole in em at the front.... but solid otherwise... this rig is gonna get an ospho bath.... i'll clean up stuff reasonable and treat it... what i do like is the rig isn't really all undercoated up...

like EVERYTHING is original, no sh!t.. all the shocks... the upper 1/2's have rotted so bad they are now rattling around the shafts at the bottom.. :haha:

so i do need to address an overall suspension plan somewhat soon... don't wanna throw shocks at something I may change...

pretty certain the exhaust is original and it's surprisingly solid as he!! other than a clamp and hangar rotted off...

i also, "think" i like the whole "boot clamped on over the slip yoke" deal on the Furd... I may retract that at a later time... ;)

I really dig the monochrome orange too.

my prob is i can't do that cuz i have the 2-tone..... it would look stooopid.. i'd have to switch the rig to all red....

my tentative appearance plan at this point... is to redo the white in argent silver at some point to match the rims. black out the front end somewhat.. headlight surround with a black billet... and a custom black bumper.. the prob is, I don't want a black stock bumper... i think it'll be too much black up front...

for now.. I just shot the grill deep area in flat black.. the charcoal is soooo weathered it looks like cr@p.... i would shoot all the chrome argent, but i think the bumper would look tacky.. so the chrome stays for now...

You’re idea for putting a tube bumper on the truck is a good one, you’re going to have plenty of time wrapped up in a good core support would suck to have it all behind the paper thin saggy stock one.

that'll be WAY down the road.. yrs... I think the shape of the valance area lends itself to tube... just wanna get the cab solid and back together for now. so stocker will go back, for now...

rad support is on the way from Jeff's.. i held off on the tank and straps for a bit..... turns out it's the 16 gal tank, not a 19... bushings should be in today....

no rainy, reg/title day in sight... one day it'll be legal again...

If it was me and I had to replace a tank on one of those dual tank trucks I would look into doing a Bronco tank conversion. They run a single 38(?)gal tank out back like a blazer. Obviously adds more work and there's a little customizing since they never offered a diesel Bronco but there are some videos on YouTube about it. If you haven't fueled up many of these era dual tank Fords you will quickly learn the first time you fuel it and it takes 15 minutes to actually fill both tanks. I was always going to look into doing like and F450/F550 rear tank conversion on mine. I know the super duty era ones ran a single 44 gal tank. Not sure on the older '90s era F-super duty trucks.

so i'm seeing the rear is a 19.... so it has 35 total... to be honest, i'm fine running around on 1 tank for quite some time.. i've been doing it in Mutt for yrs...
I don't drive a ton anymore.... literally like 5000 a yr, tops...

i see the 80's F series had a rear 38 gal.. wonder if that's a possibility too... i thought i saw something about different swaps.. I'll check into all my options, thanks....

i asked him if the front 19 was a straight swap in to my 16, but he said the upper bracing was wrong.... and i'm definitely open to moving the spare out from underneath at some point for a big tank swap possibly...

I actually would rather start suspension work before I do a big tank project... like i said, 25 yr old shocks, etc..... suppose i should "get notifications" on super duty axle searches that come up.... ;) cuz it all starts up front...

sooooooo fuggin annoyed..... ordered a kit directly from energy suspension.. figured big company, must be pro..... i just got a fed x bag, ripped wide open with 1/2 the sh*t missing.. i don't know who I'm more pissed at cr@ppy fed x or the company for expecting this to survive thru the mail... you can bet if I ordered it thru summit it would have showed in some sort of box.......

here's how it showed....

here's the e-mail i sent... i tried to refrain.. ;)

"i just recieved my order # 595326

the fed x guy dumped a torn open fed x package on our doorstep and took off... 1/2 the parts are missing...

you guys don''t put this in a box? 10 lbs of loose parts in a bag? for real?

I need to see about returning this stuff and getting my parts ASAP... Thought I was being a good guy ordering it direct.. Summit would have at least put it in a box...

thanks, paul randolph"

i did get a buttkiss reply very quick.. better not wait for the return to send my sh*t out... now i have 2 to run over to the fed x place.. great... :doah:

+1 for Jeff's... showed a day early and seems like a very nice piece.... I wouldn't know it from OEM..

good thorough scuff, couple coats of primer and some black awlgrip coming up... I'll mix this in as I prime, paint Mutt's rockers...

friggin energy suspension.. too funny... doesn't have another kit in 18 warehouses.. 18 he said.. and the factory is 5 to 8 wks out... refunded the money... jacka$$.... got a bunch of washers, sleeves, bolts, etc out of the deal...

so i roundabout gave em my money by ordering thru Jeff's.. :doah: :dunno: hoping they have some on the shelves...

eesh, it just came thru as on backorder.. i wonder if they/anyone has the red kit.. i don't care particularly red or black... i'll call jeffs tomorrow...

i looked for the furd and didn't see them.. i'll check again tonight.... jeffs didn't have red either.. so i kept the backorder open with them in case i can't find them.... pissed cuz i''d love to plow thru that project in a couple wks when Mutt's rockers are done.. it's not legal, good time to do it....

it's funny.. I'm trying to refer to this rig as a 97... i had been using 96 cuz it was 10/96... some things seem to run thru 98, some don't.. I looked up 97, and it doesn't come up.. yet it comes up for 96.. than says the kit covers thru 98? :dunno: :screwy: :smokin2:

anyway, thanks... and now that I'm looking at this.. i think i can save money.. the 1/2 kit delivered has the full bag of hardware.... so I'm just gonna order the bushing kit to fill in the missing ones...

tomorrow I'll cancel the Jeffs order...

ordered.. stoked... that's gonna be a huge project... couple weekends easy.... the cab is way out a whack to the bed...

I'm pretty sure the wheelwells are going to have to come out too... i think that's where those mid mount bolt heads are behind....

i knew both bat trays would, but a lot of chit mounted to the wells it looks like... ;) gonna try and tie up the rad and condenser and just keep em attached.......

but it could all time out well, finishing Mutt up over the next 2, 3 wks.. than do this, get it legal.. than go back to the tank project... yada.....

so, in my inherent need/desire to de-fUrdify the rig... :haha:

I took the fender emblem off when I ditched the mouldings..... was surprised to find they actually have locating holes in the fender....

so I just bought these to replace the F-250 heavy duty ones....

I'm gonna repaint the background red to match the rest of the rig...

I also ditched the chrome wheelwell moldings... gonna need to fix the rust anyway....

and the white is gonna go, so primer spots for now on the repairs.. gonna do the argent at some point, and see how i like it..
