Ryoken's 96 Furd twofiddy

here's the worst repair I'll do.. the other side is about 1/2 this...

for now, I'll just trim it up a bit and blast/prime it... till I get a patch panel, 8th day of the week....

got stuck doing quiet work today.. good neighbor and all that....

here's a better view of the carnage...

here's how the rig will sit for a few wks until Mutt's rockers are done... than I can move this into that work spot and disable it... basically it's the 2 mounts and rad/condenser brackets and it's out....

I think I like the whole plastic wheel well deal.. i think... so far the furd engineering hasn't fugged me... in due time I suppose... ;)

Damn I don't miss the rust belt.

It's weird tho.. There's a few spots that are pretty hammered... But a good bit of the rig is in unbelievable shape when you consider that rad support..

So... Since I seem to be getting my bodyman on lately, I'm gonna be trying out a new rust technique on this rig...

I've used acids before, but trying out a new one I read about... Rust-be-gone...

But I've never combined it with a follow up converter treatment, like an Ospho...

I think that combined with some strategic blasting could make this rig last a while...

I've also decided to commit to my scheme......

trimming out the valance and front of fenders in some argent silver.... doing the headlight surrounds and outer grill black... doing the 3D of the grill argent.. eventually, when i build the bumper, I'll do the phantom in black.... and yup, I'm gonna spray the shitty chrome bumper black.... if i really like it at the end, i'll replace the surrounds with factory black ones.. cheap enough at less than 50 for the pair...

it's a lot of black, but I'm hoping the lenses, valance and 3D grill argent help break it up enough until I can do a more streamlined bumper...

that does bring up some bumper points.. disappointed in how much the fenders, etc hang below the valance..... and also how far the horns stick out....

I actually have an idea for a hybrid tube/plate bumper kicking around in my brain for later...

Probably one of those combination effects. Not so thick/well coated metal in a spot where the salt can just sit and rot it out. Also, a lot of people don't stick the hose in there and wash it off very thoroughly.

Sorta like cab corners.

exactly.. that's what happens to those rear well lips... other than a golfball hole on each inner, the rockers are solid.. fenders, floors and cab corners are fine... new gate and those 2 patches will fix the bed up enough...

considering this rig has been a daily in Jersey for 23 yrs and literally hasn't been washed in 15 yrs, I'm pretty content with it... once these mounts are done, I'll be much more confident in it becoming a solid, clean, long lasting rig.. bit at a time.....

suspension, front end will be the next big hurdle at some point....

At least it doesn’t have the radius arm bushings that work harden and clunk around.

Check the pivot bushings on the TTB arms too.

I wanna rip the whole front out to the rails and shock towers... 60 with corrected leaves, or coils...

back I'd keep to a minimum and just match front height...

keep the steelies and throw 35 malls on it..

I knew the super duty trucks were like that, wasn't sure on the older stuff. The GM captured nut is definitely a dumb idea.

got the emblems... just scotch taped for effect... I think it's gonna look killa with the panel in argent silver..

which I also picked up today.... never shot the Nason base/clear.. we'll see, it's friggin cheap...

the red is close enough to the "Vermillion red" that I'd probably just leave em... especially if i reshoot the rig with fresh red..

.

just some old body guy babble... you'll notice I pulled the striping.. what I'll be doing is bumping that white, soon silver, up a tad at the top, and down at the bottom to bring it a bit closer to each body line....

than I'll be dividing the 2 colors with a 1/4" wide satin black stripe.. than a 1/8" of argent, than a 1/8" black... below the top 1/4", and above the bottom one... so the 1/8" one stands out a bit...

all the mounts/parts are in for this project, except the black billet grill I just ordered... fug it, I'm in there, time to do it...

but I got another 2 or 3 weeks before I get Mutt out of the "work spot"....

I'm so glad I decided to "step up", and try to buy a quality piece with the billet grill... I was VERY leery about a $54 eghey one... iffy reviews to put it mildly.....

so I went with one from Carriage Works... $225 to my door....

it's very stout.... glad I ponied up.... I'm gonna call it the Protest Slicer...

of course it's gloss, needs to go satin... being Mutt's work is grinder/hammer/noisey work these days, been using the Furd as quiet fill-time... was outside wetsanding the white with 600 in prep for paint tonight... scuffing/painting the grill will come under that quiet time...

I'm into this late, but if you're looking for hard to find parts call Randy at driven auto parts. http://www.drivenautoparts.com/

He'll either have stuff or know if you're truly f'd. Buddy of mine used to work there, I've bought from him in the past. Local guy.

He's been focused more on bronco's of late but he has a few acres of Fords he dismantles and sells.

Here's another source for some goodies. www.cpaddict.com they have door repair stuff and all kinds of cool things. FYI you will break an interior door handle at some point if they are still the factory style plastic ones. They do some cool billet ones but I just did the Doorman metal upgraded ones.
