so, the woodworking is done....


here's where the cab will reside...

glad I went 48" wide...

here's the leg bracing I did...

here's the mounting for the light and vac hole below it...

here's the air intake diverter

and over the hole where it'll be, once I coat the inside..

nah, the 60 and stand are temporarily sitting in front of the lathe, you can see it in the top pic... not sure where it's gonna go for now till I can actually start working on it.. but that's a ways off... I'm just trying to avoid bringing it upstairs to the "parts warehouse".. I can carry the empty housing upstairs, but I'd rather not...

I'm hoping this will be the last major rearrange for awhile... I'd like to actually finalize locations, and get the dirty room partition back up...

This is pretty cool. I've done a fair amount of blasting with our cabinet here at work and I'd never believe you could get away with a cabinet holding up that is made of wood but I suppose it makes sense if it is being used for just occasional hobby type use as you've said.

I wondered too about the wooden supports where the media will hit directly, but I guess you could even put some metal plating over it or something if you were finding it wears to quickly to your liking.

what if you coat the inside with rubberized undercoating..wouldnt that bounce the sand back??

woodwork is done..

got a coat of gel on the inside today..

I'll do another heavy coat during the week.. and get the outside gray next weekend, and hopefully assembled and running...

that one hole down at the other end is for this box/light setup... if I want more, I can add the fixture only to the right, down at the door-end of the cab...

I can tell you from my experience that the blast cabinet I had used 4 of those 100w lights and it was barely enough.

expanded steel, and round rod to frame it...

every blast cab I've seen just has a hunk of the expanded in there with all the sharp edges.. never really an issue... I just like that "finished" appearance the rod makes around the expanded... little more trouble-free handling too....

yup, chomping at the bit..

got a couple projects lined up already... an older snappie carry box I picked up, some lathe accessories, the LED panel, etc....

invaluable for many projects ya come across, from engine brackets to rims, etc, etc..


gonna start on the framed screen tomorrow night... having trouble finding my Rusto floor paint locally, everyone's out of it... gonna coat the exterior than touch up the garage floor with the leftovers...

I wanted something that would get progressively tighter.... there are some marine transom door latches that would have worked nice, but I didn't have any kicking around at work... so I'm using a household window lock that I picked up at homo depot, seems to work great......

hopefully I'll have it together and running by the end of the weekend...

great....the blast cab at work has a simple clamping latch, that as you close it, it draws the door down tight onto the seal....those simple progressive window latches should do the task just fine!
