I'm going to give it another go before I get someone else involved...couple more things to adjust...I am pretty sure I need to bend the window sail outward...I was afraid to do this without having the window in the door to test it after I bent it but...
I am pretty sure that it needs adjusting not only frontward but side to side...not much but maybe a quarter inch outward and almost a quarter upward where it meets the top of the windshield frame.

I am also going to grind down the bottom of the B Pillar where Imiceman pointed out the "bumps"...I don't think they are in the way, but it won't hurt anything to be sure...

unless somebody thinks I shouldn't do any of these things...:dunno:
 
Well none the less at least you know about now and know what the old man was talking about.

I guess if you really wanted to get anal about your gaps...you could use these tricks and create some seriously tight gaps....:eek1:

in a way it makes more sense to "lengthen" the door....unless your quarter gap isn't straight

You don't need to grind, you can hammer on the high spots, unless they are spot weld remnants then grind them flat, but if you can hammer on the high spots that to me seem to be holding the panel out you should be able to bring it in some more.
 
By "sectioning" you mean just cut a straight line across and take off the pinch weld lip...maybe an inch or so above it?

When I said sectionning, I was talking about the pic Ryoken posted where he said to remove a section of the panel to make it shorter, since it looks from the arch and the position of the ends that your panel is long once the arch matches the door.
As for the B pillar, I am talking about hammering on the high spots that most likely are touching and keeping the panel too far.
Unfortunately I am not there but I could resolve this real quick when I have my hands on it.
I used to work with a guy and we brought cars from the dead by bring them back to spec shape, some you couldn't even tell they were in an accident, even before putting an once of filler.

But MAN, I want to get a good look at that problem!!!

I swear, if he were just a little south of Birmingham, I would already be up there.....
 
Dude! I might have just come up with a way to check quick and easy if the B or the door is the problem! Make a cardboard template of the curve of the door, and compare it to the other side and see if the curve matches. You can do the same to the B. I think that will tell you quick fast and easy what the problem is.

It's worth a try...I need to find some cardboard

and that also assumes that the passenger door is "correct" also..
 
Yea for sure. But at least (for example) if you find that both B's are the exact same but the doors are wildly different you at least know where to start zeroing in. You could possibly also do this with the new vs. old quarters.
 
If my tracing is correct, it may have revealed the problem...

I traced the door, then the B Pillar

I cut them down the line and layed the door on top of the B Pillar

I blackened the edge so the difference would show up...and there is a difference...right where the problem area is...

Well that was a good way for you to see what I saw in your pics and was trying to explain to you.:D
Now the solution is to bend those edges on the B pillar so they are inside the profile desired and then you can hange the panel.
