Don't do it! They only ever reproduced the 79 hoods that have the extra body line on the front. It would look totally goofy on anything other than a 79-80 imo. If you must replace the hood, I would at least try finding a good used one.
 
My Goodmark cowl hood fits well and is oem type quality. Maybe they have factory hoods :dunno:

let em run the clean aftermarket.... a hood loaded with mud = bad... OEM, or not... that's a lot of heat cooking that filler over time... small spot here or there, no big.. large area's, not such much...
 
I called AMD and the guy told me what he said...there is a horizontal line across the front lip...they do NOT make a repop exactly like the 1974.

So...I get to go to the parts yard tomorrow looking for a hood

OR it may be possible for the bodyman to tap that line in and mud over it? :dunno:
 
You'll have to click that pic to make it bigger. Basically, google image search 79 chevy, and then any erlier model. They 79 hoods do not look at home on anything other than a 79 in my opinion. They Ruin the look of a restored truck faster than a set of blicg wheels...
 
that's ugly as Hell...and it doesn't look like it can be tapped in...

A 74 with the repop hood. Sinfully ugly.

at least I can choose from 1973 to 1978 bigger range than just having 73-74.
maybe I can find a good straight one.
 
that is so stupid...why didn't they make the hoods plain instead of the one year they decided to ruin them?

I think you guys are being ghey.. it doesn't look much dif imo...
 
It's not that it looks a lot different, it just screams "this isn't the original hood!" I'mnot aanti 79-80 hoods, I have owned 2 79s and an 80.they are fine but just don't look right on anythingother than 79-80.

Not the center line but that giant horizontal proboscus

looks like they took away the bottom half of the centerline as it curves down to the bottom of the front edge
 
putting that hood on mine would be like putting chandeliers on an El Derado...:eek1:

eh, I think you guys are blowing it out of proportion, but it's your beach truck...
 
It's not just those two, it's a huge visual pet peeve of mine too. The '79-80 hood isn't ugly...it's just that it screams "RE-POP" when I look at it on anything other than a 79-80 rig.

I'd look long and hard for a 73-78 hood at this point in the game.
