If that's too much force on the front 2 x 4, I could lay two 2 x 4 lengthwise inside the top and use straps to attach those to the upper rear 2 x 4

your first idea with the hook where the back glass goes would work fine. Your straps all the way up to the front 2x4 would works as well, but I would go with the hooks.

I bet you could go wander around harbor freight or home depot and find some hooks that you could modify to work.

I was also thinking maybe some 2" wide flat stock bent with a bfh and a vise would make something that would work out perfectly. Pad it like ryoken said and good to go.

Use the seat belt anchors at each corner.

Went to Harbor Freight and found these hooks that will handle I think 100 LBS each.

Not the ideal setup, but I will revisit that when I paint the top.

That certainly works. What about the front? Same thing? Are you just going to set it on and then remove the hooks, and then slide it forward?

With the bottom open and free like this I can drive under it and pretty much guide it down right into place with minimal need to move it once on the bed rails.

Plus there will be new rubber seals so it will be cushy...

You know the fiberglass magnet thing is not totally undoable.

Glue some steel plate to the underside of the top. Would not have to be heavy, thick sheet metal would work.
Paint it white so it would not show.

Then, some of the rare earth magnets like I have mounted to a couple of 2X4s with padding so as to not scratch the top.

Just lower the wood down and the magnets will grab the plate right through the fiberglass.
Put a couple of right angle handles on the wood so that when you get it on the truck, you can twist it lengthwise and break the connection.

wow...called today...they still haven't painted the hood....closing in on 6 months at the paint shop...I took it there in March I think....

Correction...according to this thread I took it there on May 14....so it's really only been 3 months...seems like 6 months..
