Ryoken's Guide to Rust Treatment and Bodywork 101

Looks incredible! I didn't even know you had those wheels and tires.

I bought those hub caps before I ever bought the Blazer :haha: That's how sure I was that I was going to do this...and I know those caps are relatively hard to come by...

My synopsis of my local Maaco is this. They did a fine job...bodywork finishing was excellent. The paint job cost $1600 and would have been $2500 for a cut and buff. Bodywork finishing was $1400 and change.

How's the paint job? Nice...probably about like factory, maybe better. Is it a show car paint job? No way. You won't get that for less than $8000.

End result...I feel like I got a new 1974 Blazer...and a driver...not a spit polish perfect trailer queen...but a damn fine example of a factory 1974 Chevy Blazer.

Maaco was in my price range for a base coat / clear coat paint job. I would use them again...just don't be in a hurry to get it back...insurance jobs come first.

I am settling into it now...realizing that much of it is far from perfect. The trim doesn't fit perfect...it's not perfect...

It looks fantastic. Don't worry about "perfection", chief. I don't think that is even possible with our trucks. The factory tolerances are so large that no two trucks are exactly the same. I have never seen one with perfectly straight trim or even body lines.

Your truck is easily in the top 5 nicest Blazers I have ever seen.

This is so true...

Every piece you put on it's like watching "Christine" when she remakes herself. Can't wait to see the finished rig!!

They fit together with the windshield header seal, the header seal fits inside the door seal at the top.

I had to cut mine to fit, I think they were LMC and are fine. Most of that stuff is made in india regardless of where you buy it. My header seal is from LMC and the first one they sent me was too long, sent another no questions asked and was fine. This was about 5 years or so ago and they had some fitment issues then, I don't know about now.

I only used glue where needed. The backside at the top is only an issue when the top is off. If you don't need glue don't use it.

NOS stuff is out there but its gold plate price.

The one I got appears to be a little bit long

Are the parking light bezels supposed o be shiny or have a satin finish? I can't seem to get them shiny no matter what...was debating to buy new ones...but if dull satin is the correct finish...why bother?

Ya, If I put it on the lip it holds the top up a little off of the bedsides just behind the door. Either way it fits into the door seal just the same. Never had any leaks with it laying in the channel when the top is on, which was 2 years ago. So I just left it there. Just seems to fit better this way. I had a lot of rust at the front cab supports and might have gotten everything a little high in the front when I replaced all that. Also replaced the bed sides from an 1984 so who knows. It was like a wet noodle at had a hard time getting it all straight. Rocker boxes were shot also, It was in bad shape.

They told me to cut my header seal and I said Whaaaaat! The sent me another and it was fine. Didn't even want the first one back.

A second look at the LMC catalog shows that seal to be the one to be the one for the fiberglass top...there is another one (#38-6184) which fits on the cab.

I think maybe the seal I ordered fits on the top :dunno:

Craig, do you have one or two seals on the top of your windshield frame? They seem to indicate that seal #5 maybe fits onto the top?

Two, one towards the front, and the other ties in with the door seal ,they both go on the windshield frame

the one with the flat ends has to lay in the channel doesn't it? and it screws into each end?:dunno:
