Ryoken's Guide to Rust Treatment and Bodywork 101

I kinda like rehitting em with satin paint every now and than.. undercoat looks great at first, but once it gets cr@ppy, it's hard to make it look good again... than if you keep recoating, it loads up..

that's me..

I put pure gasoline in it and bought a can of that 10+ Octane boost....I can report that it does NOT get better gas mileage....but my neck can report a much greater response when you hit the gas pedal...not kidding...don't think it's in my mind either...seemed to be much more responsive...

:dunno:

that's wells... undercarriage, bottom of the floor is another story.. for most, a good rubberized undercoat is best...

Makes perfect sense...I want to keep it looking good for years to come so I will go that route

octane boost is a worthless scam..

maybe it was the real gas that was more responsive....

maybe it was the cogs in my brain making it happen??? :doah:

Maybe the new window seals made me feel better about the whole thing :haha:

ethanol vs reg will have more of a dif.. boosters don't raise octane nearly as much as they would have you would think... not to mention, the majority of mills won't benefit from a higher octane anyway.. it's only raising it .10's of octane points...

running aviation fuel? yeah, that's an octane dif! but it only matters if your running 11 to 1 pistons...

So you are better off getting 94 Octane at the pump to begin with...and even then a standard engine doesn't notice? :dunno:

yes, by far..... but it all depends on the compression ratio, cam, etc on how much it affects it, if at all...

so that leads to the question...if it doesn't make much difference on 99% of cars, why do they bother to sell different Octanes?

at one point it mattered coughhemiLS6nastybigcubemillhorsepoweriscoolcough era..

the last 30 yr's? not so much... :haha:

A lot of newer cars run higher compression and need higher octane. My Bimmer calls for 91 for example. I'd say anything newer and boosted should get higher octane as well. The small and big blocks in our trucks though? 87 is just fine.

dang it....it just don't seem right....an old horse should eat good :haha:

When I was driving my truck I liked to put chevron 87 in, it ran much better and when It came time for emissions and it passed I would give it 91 as a "treat" for being good. :haha:

It's probably not right that a grown man should be giddy about getting some swag from automotive vendors, but I am as giddy as a kid in a candy store...

As I mentioned earlier CRC contacted me today and they are sending some stuff
BF Goodrich emailed me and is sending some stuff
GoldenEagle is sending some Sta-Bil stuff and 303 stuff

Everybody else gave me the "we don't have the funds for printing stickers anymore"

But I feel like a kid again, in 1974, with a handful of STP stickers...man I was crazy about those things...:haha:

my short term memory is gone...I may have already asked this question...is there something I can apply to the brake master cylinder to prevent it from rusting...even if I have to re-apply it ever couple weeks?

I can't believe how fast that thing rusts..and it is dry...in a garage...
