SAS build thread... Project: Green Seal

a combination of rainy weather, sunday being fathers day, and having to work friday forced me to postpone my build until next weekend:(

if i would have known the straight link would have cleared i most prolly would have went that route with some weld in bungs, oh well to late i suppose, this bent one should serve me just fine

as for the airboat what hunterguy86 said is true, and if they have enough power you can run them on dry ground, they make for very good means of transport to get to the duck blind, deer stand or to go frogging, and are just fun as hell to drive. with the advent of the fubared hull situation we have been looking to upgrade to a bigger boat, our current one is a 12' fiberglass hull with a 0320 (4 cyl, 160 hp) lycoming motor with a wooden prop, we are wanting to get a 13' aluminum hull with a 0540 (6 cyl, 260 hp) lycoming motor and most likely either a two or three blade composite prop. also my dad won $5k from a free raffle at the casino the other day, so our chances of getting a new boat after 30 years are pretty good

There are some very cool airboats on www.southernairboat.com

that site has some pretty nice boats

truck stops better today.... on the bad side of this, its because the copper bushings blew out where the lines mount to the calipers, in a panic stop. so now both rear calipers are dripping brake fluid, but supprisingly the truck stops awsome now

good solid day of work today got my ifs all torn off and a few holes drilled. for the record drilling next to an existing hole sucks very much!

why not just move your rear spring hangers back a couple inches?

when are the h1's coming?

How long are the dodge springs?

I know my shackle angle sucks with no engine in the rig, but that is Chevy 6" BDS springs.

thats pretty much as far back as the bracket can go, the frame is boxed for only so far and on the inside there is a lip that curls towards the outside of the truck, restricting the backing plate from fitting if moved back any farther. the H1s are coming as soon as i can get the time to drive to houston to pick them up.

im gonna measure them on the weight of the truck today, i havent done that yet, unsprung they where 52.25" long, pretty sure the combination of them being a lil bit too long and the way the spring goes over the rear eye instead of under it is whats screwing me up.

my draglink is hitting my spring when i get to about 2/3 the range turning to the drivers side of the truck, would adding a spacer under my steering arm be a hack way of fixing that?

ok, im about ready to hang myself...

worked on the pig today. swapped on some chevy 52s minus the overload and suprise suprise they do the sammmmmmme **** as before... and now the front end of my truck is about 2" lower, so low i cant even drive it. the spring rate is also A LOT less than the dodge 52s, before i couldnt get the front to budge now its quite bouncy. the new chevys measure 52" on weight just like the dodges and kyles alcans... ideas, because im fresh out, and if i get alcans and they arrive and yet do the same thing i wont be held accountable for my actions

plans for tomorow is to bastardize the dodge pack and add to the chevy pack and see if i can get it driveable again... i did cure my draglink rubbing my springs when turning left but gained a few more problems and that problem will most probably resurface once i bastardize teh dodge pack

progress report... added two leaves from the chevy pack into the dodge pack to make a 7 leaf pack. stiff as ****, the shackle still hits, i put my zerorate in the 1" forward possition this time and now it rubs the front bumper but it still rubs less than it did before when i had it centered. and now instead of my draglink contacting the springs at 1/3 travel in the left direction it contacts them at 2/3 travel in the same direction.

alcans came in today... and within an hour the truck was being torn apart.

with the springs on and the weight back on them a few issues arise... #1 my shackle angle is straight ****, i told the ppl numerous times that i had 7" shackles and that they needed to accommodate accordingly for that so to say the least I'm less that satisfied in that regard. #2 which is that the springs under weight basically look like a slight W, its not THAT bad i don't guess but they are just really soft springs

put my steering stabilizer on the only way i really could... hope thats how its supposed to look :hmm:

picked up my H1 rims friday they still need to be cleaned up and painted gloss black and then mounted up that will come in the next week or so

the truck sits within 1/4" of how it did on the previous springs. the ride home was more than pleasant IMO so far its riding better than the IFS did but more testing will be needed, had some excessive body roll so some ****ty shocks where added although the body of the shock didnt clear in the proper orientation so they had to be mounted upside down, doesnt work too bad but its livable, also the bushing on the shock body is for a 9/16 bolt and there is a 1/2" bolt in there so it chatters a little which isnt really pleasant. haven't put the truck in any sharp fast turns so dont know how much body roll it will really have. also its really nice being able to turn all the way to the left as now now draglink clears by a mile. i also cut my bumper the other day so no more rubbing which was molesting my tires

there are specific shocks that are made to be mounted upside down. if yours are not, then they might as well not be on there. they dont function like they are supposed to when mounted upside down.

That article explains it very well. other than that congrats on getting it together. much more than i am able to do right now.

Sweet! I lub your truck its just like mine exept mine has a 5 speed and possibly a few more miles on it. Same color, Z71 everything. Yours appears to be slightly better shape body. And of course your SAS, I hope I dont have as much trouble as you but you seem to have the same luck as I do. If it wasnt for bad luck Id have no luck at all. I havent desided if i want to SAS mine yet or not, the 4wd is broke so depending on how bad its messed up will determine the build. Right now im leaning towards a pre runner look because there isnt anything like that around my area. Did yours have the metric 14b stock? Mine does, I guess im lucky there anyway. Great build ill keep an eye on this one. Heres a pic of mine, dirty though.
