SAS'ing my 02 Duramax - Garage Build

Sorry for the lack of updates guys....it's our busy season at the Fishing Lodge and that consumes most or all of my free time. The truck has been doing great, even after some romping and long commute drives to Anchorage and back. Only a few small issues...

First, getting a lot of "feedback" at the steering wheel, like I still need steering stabs. I don't remember having this issue with other hydraulic asset kits I've used. With the front tires lifted off the ground, you can flop the tires side to side by hand, as if there's not enough resistance from the steer cylinder. I might through a stab kit on it, just to see if that fixes the issues.

Second, getting some uneven tire wear on the outside of the driver tire and it seems to be from a bit of a Camber issue with this "new" Dana 60. I have the tow dialed in just right, but the tire leans out a bit further than I think it should, which seems to be the only cause of the wear I can figure. Currently looking for a offset kit or eccentric King pin bushing that can compensate for this...anyone know of a good solution?

Third, even after some long discussions with my man at Six States, we ended up getting the front driveline too short...for as much flex as my truck has now. It runs fine a normal ride heights, but I found out that I can pull it out of the splines at near full flex. Going to have him build it longer or find a "long throw" spline to weld in there.

Forth, still haven't machined the rotors to fit the ABS sensors in there...so my ABS light is on all the time. No biggie, but I want to get this thing just right after all that work....no short cuts.

Overall, great swap!....nice ride, little sway, minimal bump steer, lots of power with lower gears and most of all....peace of mind that it will hold up when I have to dig out of a hole, jump a snow berm, pull a motorhome off the beach (fun stuff) and things like that!

next to a "normal" sized truck ;)

Driveline at ride height....too much splines showing already!

After only this much flex...

The driveline pulled apart. Needs to be lengthened out a bit!

Sucks about the shaft, but the truck looks great. Glad you're getting to enjoy it.

OK guys...picked up a couple of the King Pin Dana 60 camber adjusters from Ingalls engineering.

Overall, the kits were very well made and went on fairly easy. I had a battle with one side for quite some time, then realized I had the lower bolt plate spun around the wrong direction, no fault of Ingalls. Both my spindles were between 1.5 and 2 deg out and the kit brought both right back to zero after a twist of the wrench.

Here's the kit as it came...

Angle of my rotor before the install...hard to tell from this photo, but this side was about 1.5 deg out and the other was nearly 2 degs

taking the lower King Pin apart is as easy as pulling the 4 lower bolts and prying the "pin" out.

Here's the kit buttoned up and adjusted...only complaint about the kit is how vulnerable the pin and grease zerk are now on the lower side of the axle, but unless you're a rock crawler...I'm sure it will never get hit.

I put the tires back on and laid a piece of ply wood flat against the tire, not letting it rest on the bulge at the bottom....and the caster is "zero" now. I know, high tech alignment techniques huh!

Seems to be driving well and I'll let you know how the tire wears turns out.
