Have you ever considered that you might not have thrown a belt at all had you been using the tighter, much more reliable serpentine belt and that's exactly why nobody else had spare v-belts?
No, because back in 1976 when this happened, sepentine belts had not been invented yet... I could have called a friend on a cell phone, but oh,,yeah....
So, do you run a caburator and breaker point ignition too?
Back then I did....
..... but then so did every car on the planet.....Nowadays I run carbs and HEI's ......
The last thing I had fail on a trail ride???
An MSD spark box.
Wish I had points that day.....

simplicity is a beautiful thing.

You know it seems history has proven over and over that aftermarket stuff is always the first thing to fail. Precisely why I don’t use any aftermarket ignition or EFI kits and bits on my off-roadsters that go out into the neverlands of the Southwest. That said, I am going out on a limb on a 2wd sport truck I am building by using a TCI EZ-TCU trans controller for a NV3500 to 4L60E swap. Being it is a city truck and not something that I would use to go into the back country where it can fail leaving me for dead as coyote and chupacabra food I don’t feed as nervous about aftermarket electronic gadgetry. I still have my doubts about the long term durability of the TCI controller over going with a factory GM set up. I just don't feel like doing all the wiring and getting yet another ECM for this truck to keep my GM "all GM" so I'm going to take my chances with aftermarket
