shady submitted a new Build:

Shady's Crew cab short bed project (SOLD)

Alright, I've had quite a few sqare bodies since I joined this group. As dueling says "I MAY have a car buying problem:whistle:" But I finally have what I've been hunting and shooting for. I picked up this CCSB last night. It needs a lot to be a good wheeler but its the body/frame/ suspension that sold me. Not to mention a little stupidity and inattentiveness. Its got a 350/350/208/10b/10b:doah: drive train. I didnt notice that it was a 1/2 ton driveline till I was half way home. But this will drive me around till I can find what I want for a drivetrain.

After fixing the steering, speedo, idle, brakes, leaks, and a couple gauges it should be a good driver:rolleyes::haha: It drove me the 3+ hours home as is with only a few tense moments, and one phone call to a fellow ck5'er. Thanks AJMBLAZER:waytogo:

I believe its a 6 inch lift but :dunno: It has 35/15.5/15's and fake bead locks. I also kept hearing a clunk in the front end and had a worsening vibration on the long trek home. found that the drag link end at the pitman arm has 1/4" or more up and down play:eek1:. I had this thing doing 80 mph on I80 last night. I think I may have an issue with the one rear leaf pack too.

Looks like the overload spring has pivoted. Or is that an AAL? Seen that with lift springs where the springs are slightly narrower than the stock spring pack. Buddy had a Toyota that would do that. We'd just bang the overload back straight with a hammer every now and then.

How'd the diff turn out man? You had me thinking there. The gf was confused as heck for a few.:haha:

"Who just called him and why's he talking about opening things and pouring lube in?"

Looks like decent bones at the very least. 14FF for the rear should be easy to find and D60's seem to be way more common than they used to be. Actually, probably be a great candidate for some CUCV 1 tons.
TBI or carb?

So how'd they do the short box swap?

the hammer on the OL was my first thought too. As far as the diff, I checked em both and they were full. So I hit the road and hammerd down. figured what ever it was would show its self eventually. nothing happened. I think it was that steering joint. 1 1/4 tons from a Mil truck was the plan. I found a site before that sold em completely rebuilt for a decent price. Just gotta find it again. There is a spot in the frame that has a weld and bolted in brace. But I dont know what they used for a donor frame. I think it was done by a custom shop cause as far as that part goes its not a hack job. looks done well.

Somebody on here bought a conversion earlier this year and it was interesting seeing how it was done. Parts from 3 trucks basically.

Sorry I wasn't available for your call Rick...pulled the trigger on it huh?
This is the one from Chicago area?

How's the metal on it?
Looks like you'll be busy for a while huh?

Looks like it could be a nice rig Rick, what are your plans for it?

Yeah, I had to have it. Picked it up from crown point, IN. Rockers are gone, but its gettin sliders kinda like ones I've seen before:whistle: Gonna do some daily driver details for now.

plans are 1-1 1/4 tons with detroits or selectables. 17"-18" beadlocks with 40-42"s. doubler and FI of some sort. It'll be a longer term project Since I'm not financing crap anymore. Save, buy, save, buy, etc. Its gonna mainly be a daily driver in the winter to keep the burb outa the salt. And some tripps through local ditches and mudd holes. (also to save the burb:rolleyes:) Eventually it'll be a dedicated wheelin rig, but for now just a fun DD.

Rick that is awesome man!

If you need any advice give me a call.

I think it will end up pretty awesome man. :waytogo:

I like it! Looks like it needs some cleaning in the engine compartment, and some upgadeing, but the truck looks good.

Just what I need another ccsb.... OLD SCHOOL STYLE!

Wish GM made them like that.

Got some pics under it. Not too bad under there. The frame tie has a plate that looks too small and a decent weld. It'll be more than strong enough when the front to back cage ties it all together:whistle: engine bay needs some major straightening up. and the first thing I'm doing is changing the valve covers to stock GMPP ones that I have laying around. Its a biatch to put oil in a baffled hole.

doors all appear to be in good shape but they all have something mechanically wrong. drivers is missaligned and window is screwy. passenger front needs slammed every time. drivers rear wont open from outside. passenger rear is the only one that seems fine.

It has a major rattle in the front that I think may be bearings. I cant afford the wheels and tires I would need to do a D60 so I'm gonna have to put some money into the 10B for now:doah:

Lookin good man! Glad u made it safely. It even has a cowl hood!!! So jealous

That thing looks real clean... good luck with it! You seem to find all teh good deals out there.

I barely made it safely. That drag link end was BAD. The cowl hood needs some attention too. it bows at the cowl when driving down the road. I'm gonna brace it a little. It catches the cowl on the passenger side when your opening it too.

Its not bad really. I'm gonna cut it up a little so I'm glad its not perfect. I find deals cause I have no real life and search for chit all day:haha: I didnt find my burb though. It found me. This one kinda did too. I had emailed the dude 3 days straight and no reply. I wrote it off as sold and was getting in the car to go look at a 98 half ton when the guy calls and said he hadnt replied to any other emails on it and just called me. Seems I was the only one who left a phone number so he chose me first:waytogo:

Well either way, I'm really freakin jealous hahah. I like the rims/tires combo on it, i think it goes real well. Too bad youre getting rid of them, but I'm anxious to see how it turns out

Is this worth it??

I found a possible donor truck but What say the brother hood. I can pic this truck up for $750 I think. http://quadcities.craigslist.org/cto/2581603239.html
It would give me a th400,np205,and 14b if I'm thinkin correctly. and a better front axle than mine plus a spare 350. then i can part or junk the rest to counter my cost. I'm guessin the front axle doesnt need as much as mine either.
Should I hold out? or get it while I can. Its 45min from me
I'm looking for an old 1 ton to rob or non running m1008.
