Shady's Crew cab short bed project (SOLD)

I think you should hold off. You can find one tons for just a bit more than that usually just have to have the money right away and be able to jump on it.

running ones are $$$ anywhere I've found. but i would definately like to have tons or better. I'm just thinkin of the fact that I have to spend so much time and money on that 10b just to drive it reliably. 10b's with me, 35-15.5-15's, and a healthy motor means somethings gonna break:D I was also thinkin of getting all the other drivetrain stuff as well. I'll hold out for a non running mil truck. I may buy this one just for the gf to drive, keep her away from my truck ya know. then part it when she gets something different.

Oh man gettin pretty serious up in here, buyin trucks for your lady.....lol :pimp:

What I would do, is swap the drivetrain into your truck, and instead of scrapping the other one, just bolt up the 10 bolts and the drivetrain to that one and sell it as a roller. You'd probably get more money out of it and not have to worry about having 2 axles and all the other junk laying around

that does make a little more sense than I was thinkin:thinking: , but I 'm gonna hold out for 5/4's for this truck. I can rebuild the outer ends of the 10b for around $100-150. I'll just have to NOT try to kill it for now due to its DD duties. All I got around here is snow and mud so it'll last a little while. still gonna look into the 79 truck for the gf.

It's official,,,
I'M A MORON!
Apparently I have a D44 front and 12B rear. I just seen they were small and 6 bolt. never paid attention to the fact that they were'nt round:doah: I deffinately have a very bad wheel bearing on the front drivers side. and a bad upper ball joint on the pass. I'm gonna replace all 4 ball joints and the bearings on both sides. But first I have to figure out what they are out of or what was used as a chassis to get the right parts. I found the frame stamp #'s so now I just need to know how to decipher them.

Found some other small issues to attend to also,

The hand is after just touching the front drive shaft. the nail in tire is staying there. the spring perch will stay that way and the little baffled hole in the valve cover sucks to put oil in

if its a 76-up it should use the same inner bearings as a 10-bolt. the older ones use the smaller inner bearing , seals and outer beraings are the same for all years

Pull the nail out and plug it with a tire plug, you don't want it working loose and causing a flat later. If it isn't leaking a little already it may not even be all the way through.

That valve cover grommet can be pulled out and cut off, then it will fill a lot easier, just make sure you have a good baffled breather so you don't have oil film everywhere, or plumb it into the air cleaner with a barbed breather. But if the breather or valve cover isn't baffled it could burn a little oil that way. But those baffled grommets suck.

I did some research last night and came up with a parts list of what I should need. I think its a newer than the switch axle.

I have a brand new set of gmpp covers for it left over from my boys project. I just gotta get them on. the nail appears to be in legnth wise so it shouldnt be into the air chamber. I hope anyway cause it looks like a biatch to plug.

Nice looking truck Rick. I'll drive the blazer to work tommorrow and that's just off of 151 8 miles east of Cascade if you want to come anytime during the day. I'll pm you:waytogo:

Rick I got a 44f sitting from my the Maiden....come up for the BBQ/bonfire, and get what you need off it.

Lol, i thought your rear axle looked a little different...
Yeah, thats what I was thinkin after I looked a little under the front. I sat there a minute and thought..... well thats a funny lookin 10b. then it hit me:doah:

Ill take that 12 bolt off ur hands lol:thumb:
It may take awhile to get my different axles but if you still need better ones then I'll GIVE you these:waytogo: (they'll be in better shape by then too.)

Most of the stuff I need is better gotten new but thanks for the offer:thumb: I'm picking most of the stuff up this weekend. About $150 buys all the stuff I need if I dont do top line chit. I'm just making it last with the cheaper stuff till I can get the bigger axles and stuff. Next year some time.

Good score !!:waytogo:
I wanna see how this ends up.
I wanna see how it comes out too:D I'm exited as h3ll to start in on it. Gotta do all the little make it run and drive better stuff first. but thats more satisfying sometimes anyway.

I retorqued the front spindle nuts today to get a little drive time on it. Bled my rear brakes, The fluid was all bubbley like foam:dunno: never seen that before. Fixed a couple vaccum leaks N set the timing. It runs better, stops better, and drives a little better too:D I bought the bearings, ball joints valve cover gaskets and a red light for the dome:waytogo: Gotten a LOT of people telling me its cool. Feels good driving the burb and gettin looks then hopping in this one and doing the same. Took some poser pics too. I need to find a better place to flex my trucks:rolleyes:
