Shady's Crew cab short bed project (SOLD)

Yeah, if it's running at 210 steady, than it is running exactly like it should be.

Martin

most fuel injected motors run around 200.. my new 454 TBI runs 205, 210 steady...

The long block is a TPI engine, but its carbed now. Now that I think of it, I'm guessing it still has the Tstat from the tpi setup:thumb: I wish it was still injected. Runs good now but carb needs somebody that is smarter than me to fondle it a little.

odd's are it's a 195 stat in there... put a 180 in....

man I wish it still was:doah: I freakin hate carbs, Their one of the few things I've never gotten the hang of. They seem so simple. but even with a manual right infront of me, nothing seems to go the way it should when I play with em.

Timing advance and ring and pinion setup are my other vehicular nemesis'

Find an ACDelco t-stat. I'm not generally a brand snob but T-stats are something I will go find the OEM maker's part for.

This 1" thick radiator may have a small part to play in the heat deal:haha: I never really looked at it before

I've seen the newer ones and figured its probably fine.... But it LOOKS so tiny and rinky dink in there to me:D My burbs rad is 2.5 times as thick, taller, AND wider.

Well, short update. I thought the harmonic balancer had spun so I watched it while running. It was wobbling bad. so I changed it the other day and found it was deffinately bad but not spun. Got sick of trying to use the timing light since it ran worse and just advanced the h3ll out of it. starts and runs fine:dunno: With the light on it the timing mark is straight on top:confused: I dont know what'd cause this but it runs and thats all that matters. Its not quite right yet and deffinately running rich but its WAY better than before.

LOTS of rigs had their timing tab situated to where you had to time it from behinde the water pump. There was at least two styles. The kind we normally think of that has the timing mark around the 2oclock position and the one that has it around the 12oclock mark.

Little more for you, you need one of these long timing tabs.

Basically there was (at least) two style balancer and two style timing covers. you have a balancer from one style and the timing cover from the other. Anymore when i time a motor thats been ****ed with, i assume that they are miss matched and try it where the tab is. If thats not right, i just being the mark over to where the other tab should be and adjust it by ear and feel.

thanks:D I didnt know that about the tabs. Going off the first pic (cant see the others from work:doah:) This is where mines at.

Judging by the distance of A and B(mines close to B now) Mine runs better at about the blue mark. (stock 8" balancer)

So I guess I have all kinds of crap messed up:haha: I need to just take it to one of those old guys around that has never used a timing light and let him play for awhile:D I think I know one near me too:thinking: I'll have to call him

The timing tab on my 350 is in that spot...up high in the center.
Then from reading on here about differences between a 350 and a 305 i found the my engine had a lot of 305 similarity's to it.

This was driving me nuts so I spent some time cleaning and standing on my head with a flashlight trying to see the bock #...well crap if it wasn`t a 305! :doah:

Might not be the case for you but I always though my truck was a dog...now I know why.

Just saying.

it has a big ole 5.7 casted into it back there. checked the other stampings to find it has the factory '88 350 195hp truck engine. I figured it would all be right but its not i guess. I was told it had a motor from a TPI camaro in it with the tpi stuff removed. I guess they took the whole thing.

I'll have to look for that longer timing tab. My current one

well i just randomly set the timing mark near straight up at idle and it starts and runs pretty good now. well enough to DD. changing the plugs helped alot too:rolleyes: I finally got to a long list of small things that need looked at too

New steering column (pics of old and new, plus my allen wrench starting method:haha:) (Switch may need adjusted on column yet also)

New ignition cylinder

New door locks (never had keys for it)

Fixed window track in drivers window (worked but was out of the rear track)

Got all doors working (rear drivers side door didnt open at all, had a jammed locking system)
