shock woes [new mounting idea]

No. Just read through the thread and that was the first thing that came to mind.

Cycling the suspension is the only true way to know what is needed for shock length and clearance. If you are doing a custom setup.

As for the shocks leaning forward or back. Forward allows the rear end to swing back and up un-inhibited more so that if a shock was pointed back. When you are hitting stuff at speed, it makes for a smoother transition. Unless you have super aggressive anti rebound valved in your shocks.

I did not notice what the truck was going to be used primarily for.

Then run a 12" in the rear. You just said you only have 6" to 7" of travel. What do you need a 14" travel for? These are not ord springs correct? Just stock rears.. They aren't going to have a ton of travel

I was attempting to figure a way to get as much travel as possible for future upgrades

I think I would buy some DOM and make my own. By the time you reinforce those, you could build nice ones.

Yah what im thinking, they are quite chincy looking...

I was stupid and bought the ballistic fab shock mounts (without hoops) and was gonna have a guy bend me some hoops.... After looking at bens thread tonight... I think i may just order a set of hoops that come with the brackets, and use the first set in the rear, welded to some DOM, plate to frame, gussets, etc..

been thinking

So, I have been doing some thinking. I want to keep my sway bar and have to keep my push pull steering for the time being. It looks like I would lose out on about 1/2" of droop if I was to run the drag link with my drop pitman arm. That's a trade off I'm OK with for now. So with keeping the stock steering arm and all that mounting is very limited on the axle.

I was thinking of running either a modified ford tower (will the fox 2.0 even fit in that?) And mount new shock tabs some what like the factory bottom shock mount. That would leave plenty of travel space and the. I can keep my sway bar, steering and bump pads.

If the ford mount won't work does any one have ideas on semi custom shock towers?

Is there a cad type drawing of the fox 2.0's floating around so I can figure out making mounts before I purchase them?

Best thing for cad drawing is the extended and collapse measurement of the shock, the f250 towers are the standard size shock width. If you want a exact measurement I could do that.

I'm trying to figure out the dimensions of the shock eye and how big the body is and how much room I need to make the factory axle mounts work. Then figure out how to make some type of shock tower (think semi custom ford shock tower). I think that combo would be my best option.

Edit: seems they are 1.25" mounting width. Still would like to know how the top end measures out.

Tomorrow after work I will dig out the shock mounts and post the measurement if no one else does.

Sorry for the long wait I'm really sorry.

That's that F250 tower with a Bilstein 5100 series shock. Just a tad over 1 1/2 inbetween both tabs.

Ah, I was figuring you were going the 2.0 route? I'm starting to lean to the 5100 series due to budget. Still need a replacement motor, cross over and other odds and other odds and ends.

I have a Bilstein 7100 with remote reservoir, that is 5/8ths of a inch. :thumb:

Oh nice! I looked into them for a bit, keep thinking about going with something like that 2.0, or just run a 5150 and 5125 for a year or so and then upgrade after I take care of a few other things on the truck.
