shock woes [new mounting idea]

Do it once, do it right. You'll never come out ahead doing stuff twice.

Can you weld? If so this conversation is insane. Take some measurements on your truck from the same two points compressed and at droop and buy $10 worth of tabs from your favorite vendor and go to town.

My welding abilities are debatable.

Sorry. I was a bit excited hahahah.

Too many of those beers lol

But come on, what else would you expect from me? Lol.

I saw them :haha:

Do you think the cross brace will hold up to the pounding from the shocks?

Idk but I'm going to add a length of angle or setting between the two brackets and weld to that crossmember to make it extra strong.

A piece tying them together under the floor would make a nice setup to make exhaust hangers.

Then hang your shackle mount for the tracbar from the angle?

No I think thats going to be too close to the axle for sure. I want to make a crossmember more by the tcase output i think.

Im just gonna say screw it and dump my exhaust in front of the rear tires.
It sounds better and I dont feel like messing with tailpipes between shocks etc. I have to redo my whole exhaust anyways becuase mine didnt fit with the ORD shackles.

Mine either :doah: just jouncing it while adjusting toe I scrape my y pipe.

Im just gonna order 4 U bends from summit and make my exhaust. It will be all nice mandral bends and not caved in like the crap I had before. I can use the majority of my pipe as its not even 2 years old and still looks fine.

Hey metalneverdies my ride height top or tube to stock bump stop bracket was 14-1/4".

Idk where u asked me for that but I'll post it here

A little too late now, but I'm planning on a cantilever setup for my rear. This would have been a good option here, and allows you to use a small (10") shock and get 15"-20" travel (if possible). I should have it done within a month or two. It's going to take some trial and error, but once I figure it out somebody should produce it as a bolt on kit. I think for our trucks, especially leaf sprung, it makes a lot of sense for those of us who do not want to hack up the bed and lose rear seating or potentially introduce exhaust into the cab.

What I'm thinking is making a replacement rear shackle mount that also has a shock mount built into it. The hard part will be playing with the articulation. I know a lot of prerunner guys are looking for a rising or falling rate, but I think on our leaf sprung trucks we're better served with a constant rate and using progressive spring rate instead. If somebody is good with CAD or solidworks and wants to help out I'll do all of the fabrication, then we can send it to somebody to mass produce.

I did one like the first system on a lowed truck. Ran a sway bar in the pivot. Worked nice. Should work for a longer shock. Just some work involved in getting the valving right.

i'd like to do a cantilever set on the rear end of my suburban, i have no idea where to start though. lever length, valving and shock length are all pretty foreign to me, never built anything like it...
