Shorty the crewcab. (Been saved from the chopping block)

81 CC short bed conversion
I want new springs later on... Probably be a while lol

I was thinking that also. That one that's broken is broken in 2 places. One place on each side of the Ubolts

Question.... Searching the internet sucks.. so what is the most likely cause of an engine that runs good and smooth above about 2000 rpm. But real rough at any lower rpm...?

My current ideas are,

Vacuum leak
Bad plugs, wires, cap, etc.
Bad gas, or chit in tank.
Carb in serious need of rebuild.

The vacuum leak thing seems possible. But I haven't seen any lines bad yet. I looked around a little.

Plugs n stuff should run bad at all rpms I would think.

The filter is a clear one and has nothing in it. Plus it it wouldn't run till I put 6 gallons of fresh gas in it... Telling me the current gas it's running on can't be horrible.

Carb...:dunno:. I know nothing about them or what issues can cause what.
I've rebuilt a few Qjets but it's a pretty simple process to follow directions. As for tuning and troubleshooting, I've never been able to figure it out:doah:

Didn't really even think of timing :doah:. That one I know how to mess with, lol

Not much to update, but I ordered the stuff for a basic tune up and a carb rebuild kit. I'll try that and timing to see if I can make it run smoother. If that don't work it's on to a swap from the Bee. Then the motor in this will be built for the Bee.

I'm sure it's not going to be hard to make this one run well though. It's a carburated Chevy V8 lol.. not much to em.

At most im figuring maybe timing chain or intake gasket leak.

Timing, Vacuum advance kicking in and "correcting" the problem? See if it still does it with the vac advance plugged.

I'm going to remove all the vacuum lines and plug/cap where they come from. Then see how it runs once. They all need replaced anyway.

Tune up stuff will be here Monday. So hopefully I can get my carb rebuilt Monday night at work. It'll probably be next weekend before I put any real time in it though. I work 12's all week except Tuesday. And I have other plans for that day. I may be able to squeeze time in though.

I have to work on the trailer first because some spots for improvement showed up during my trip and it's currently in the way of the trucks spot at the shop lol

timing and the new altitude..lot thicker air at your place

Didn't think of it being a carb and altitude... . That's a very good catch lol

Well... I think I found my idle problem lol... First, Here's what I started with.
PO before Eric had done some carb work:rolleyes:

So I took it off for a basic rebuild, and reinstall.

As soon as I took it off the intake I noticed this was not hooked up or plugged :doah:.

And when I got it apart I found these 4 little brass tubes that should be pressed into the top plate. They weren't lol. This is how I found them

Hopefully it's as nice as yours someday lol

I read a mag article once that said 90% of carb problems are ignition.
Good catch on the carb, I think it’ll purr once you get the tune done!
