Shorty the crewcab. (Been saved from the chopping block)

81 CC short bed conversion
Yeah that's short... If I could get like grade 8 all thread I'd think about that. I actually wondered about that idea already.

Im going to search Fastenal and stuff when I get to a better cell connection.

On a separate note, I'm kind of thinking about removing a couple leafs from my front springs. The bottom 2 in fact.

When I got these springs the guy said they were custom made (no idea who by) for a truck with a plow. It's got a lot of leaves and they are pretty thick.

I'll look and see what I might have left over from my D60 build. Maybe might maybe could have that factory hardware floating around somewhere

I found a spec layout for the high steer ones that I've found all over... The artec and Reid are the same from what I've seen. I'm goin to measure my arm and see if that 5/8 shank part is ok.. if so I'll buy a set and hope

Look at that link for the torque king ones, the shank is the same but both threaded parts look longer on the high steer one you posted so you should just be able to carefully cut them down. The short side should be fine cuz the high steer arms should just be thicker on top.

Yeah. The torqueking ones are the right ones for sure.. but they're way too expensive. It does say that the shoulder is 5/8 though... I never looked at that part lol. Seen the price and ran.

It looks like the high steer ones will probably work then. I'm going to order a set. And if it's just a tad off. I'll mill a 1/4" spacer plate to go between the arm and knuckle lol. I'm sick of searching.

I am have only briefly skimmed your steering arm stud saga.

Why not have a machine shop just machine the studs you need? I've had it done it would only cost you a few bucks.
I made some head studs for an olds once. Any decent shop could do it quickly and cheaply.

Eh. I'll try the ARP/Artec ones I've been finding... Ordered them a couple hrs ago actually lol. $45 for the studs and nuts. And if by chance they do happen to be a cunny hair too long in the shank area, I can use the scrap barrel and machines at work to make up a 1/4" spacer for under the arm. Then the puck that would have to go in the cap. Plus get paid to do so lol.

I actually don't know of any small machine shops around here. I'd have to look around a bit. There used to be one I knew of about 25 years ago... But I don't know if it's still there :dunno:

??

One of them probably could help you out. A chunk of cold roll is as strong as any grade 8.
Anyway you think you found a solution, carry on.

4 studs lol. But yeah. I thought it was high still too... That was the cheap ones by the way. I did find a place selling them for $36. But I like buying from places I've already bought from. The extra ten bucks would have evened out in Shipping anyway.

Going the shop route still may have cost me $50

One more thing I have to get done quick is trying to solder that hole in the radiator. I'll give it a shot myself first. If that doesn't work I'll take it to the radiator shop a few miles away.

Maybe. But you would have known they would work and you would have them in hand already.
Always something to be said for doing things locally to.

Looks like this spring was a little loose... And the cupping of the pad is kinda weird too.

High steer studs did work fine.
New bushings and springs installed.

I have almost a month of vacation starting next Tuesday. My main goal for that time is to get the lift and tires done on this thing. And get the radiator fixed. So hopefully it'll be driving it before the end of the month:woot:

Made up some thick washers for the spring bolts up front. Beings as the new springs are 2.5" at the ends instead of 3".

I couldn't remember bolt sizes so I winged it and went with 9/16" and 7/16". Not sure if that's right :dunno:. But I can redrill the shackle side ones if I have to.

Back on the shop.... For the goodies this time :woot:.

Doing the cheap 4" lift for now. And sometime later get a custom set of leafs a little taller possibly.
I've decided to keep the 37"s and set this up so I can run them, or the 35" nittos. Depending on where I'll be playing at. Probably mostly run the 37"s since it's all mud around home :dunno:.

I got almost everything disconnected from the axles. About an hrs worth of work will have em both on the ground and out of the way..

Springs may kill some time though lol. Not looking forward to that part.

While it was on the stands I decided to dig out some tires for a sneak peek. Front looks about like the 6" lift probably would.. and I'm guessing the back is closer to a 4" lol. Gets me more excited either way lol
