Shorty the crewcab. (Been saved from the chopping block)

81 CC short bed conversion
FYI make sure you have 1 ton hangers or 3/4 ton hangers as they stick out different amounts from the frame to set your spring width on the axle. 1 ton are narrower like the 67-72' trucks and 3/4 and 1/2 ton are the same. Wouldn't want to go through all the trouble building a shackle flip and find out they didn't match your front hangers on the chassis.

Mud trucks don't need overloads? That's the plan for this?
I don't see why it would need an overload :dunno:. It does actually still have one. And the bump stops will keep the springs from going past flat anyway.
The main use of this truck will be any and all 4x4 stuff, and driving around town, to work occasionally. Pretty much the toy.

just a fyi from my days as a spring tech in a shop . your #2-3-4 leafs will be acting the same as one . leaf packs need staggered out ends to work and flex as each there own . your 2-3-4 leafs are all basically the same lengths . this will = 1 massive thick leaf in the way the spring works .

and if you happen to have some extra rear spring front hangers for the frame do a home brew flip on a budget like i did . 2wd hangers and ride height set were i wanted . then drilled and bolted and welded support on bottom to bolt to the frame . then cut off extra top to clear box .

I was pondering the idea of just building my own shackle flip. I know I can. I just don't know if I have enough stuff around. I know I don't have those hangers though lol.
As for the springs... It is what it is now. They're in and will be run that way until I get something different.
When this does get shortened I hope to go with custom rear springs or even longer ones like 64"s. Won't know till then. Hopefully next year.

I thought only cab and chassis had narrowed frames? :dunno:

frame is not narrow on square body stuff . @max 02

its the hangers on the frame for the rear springs for crew cabs and 1tons . the easy way to spot a true 1ton narrow hanger setup is the shocks are inside the frame . 1/2 and 3/4 ton are outside the frame .

Frames are all the same. The spring hangers are different widths, how far they stick out from the framerail. I learned this because a 1 ton 14BFF will bolt directly into a 67-72 truck since they both have the narrower hangers/spring width and a 3/4 ton 14BFF has to have the spring perches moved. 3/4Ton and 1/2 ton stuff is the same width.

If only you had some hangers off a yellow truck.

I wasn't saying that mud trucks don't need overloads. More just asking the intented use as I didn't remember.

Dude. You just ruined my day :notworthy:
I thought about that, and realized my axle from the rear of the bee... , The one going in this 1 ton. Was under a half ton chassis.
So I measured and I have a 3/4t 14bff. :doah:

It's also 3/4" wider hub face to hub face too.

I had just been taking pics of, and pondering the dilemma of the shock mounts being opposite of each other. Then sat down and read that post...

Here I thought I was going to have it sitting on its new rear tires tonight.

Crap sorry! Glad you figured it out now though. Guess you get to cut off the perches and do some new ones. It's crazy how many variations on hub to hub measurements there are. I had always read that the front axles were supposed to be 1 1/2" wider than the rears. Well my 3/4 ton axles in my k5 came as a pair out of a truck and my rear is 3" narrower than my front. It measures 69" wide.

wms to wms is the same . you just measured wrong . 67" spec unless drw c&c or wide drw . dana 60 front is 69" and 1/2 and 3/4 ton are under that spec if i recall .

swap the guts as 14ff is stupid easy to do this with .

or cut the perches and shock mounts and get to welding .

Your right lol. I read your post and rechecked.... By myself and NOT with the wife this time. 66⅞" both axles.

Side shot, sitting on its own weight. Rear is still sitting on the wood stand

So far I think these springs are gonna suck lol. I actually don't mind that they're higher than I thought. But so far they seem stiff as hell too. I climbed up on the corner and started bouncing and barely wiggled it... That's not saying much. But I dropped the jack a little fast, like super fast actually :doah:, and it just hit the floor and stopped lol. No bounce, suspension dip, nothing lol.

We'll see I guess

These springs aren't from the bee?

No these I bought from a dude north of you, just over the state line.
Someone on here linked them here from another site.
I was told 4" lift. But the guy said they were custom made for a square body with a plow. So they could actually be 4" of lift on a truck with a plow... :dunno:. All I'll have up there is a tube bumper and winch
