Shorty the crewcab. (Been saved from the chopping block)

81 CC short bed conversion
No these I bought from a dude north of you, just over the state line.
Someone on here linked them here from another site.
I was told 4" lift. But the guy said they were custom made for a square body with a plow. So they could actually be 4" of lift on a truck with a plow... :dunno:. All I'll have up there is a tube bumper and winch
That's what I thought..... Well if they weren't from the bee that's what I thought.

That's why I was thinking about removing the other, bigger, bottom leaf. But I'll try it this way first.

So.... I guess I don't have much choice. I'm going to have to just swap cases for the rear axle. I really don't want to mess with cutting all the shock mounts and perches off. And I'm out of weld gas anyway. So case swap it is.

Brakes are bigger on the 1 ton rear anyway.
I have a cavalier to attempt to fix in the next couple days. So I'll have to work around that.

I'm hoping that the pinion depth stays relatively close.

Only crappy part of the case swap is the brakes have leaking wheel cylinders. I haven't been inside the rear of a FF yet. So that'll be new.
As long as it all looks good in there it should go well.

It still hurts my heart I had to sell my 89’CC. Glad who it went to but still hurts the heart. Keep at it, wish I could help you wrench on it! God bless! Good luck!

If you ever get well enough to help, I can use all the help I can get

Lol. The D60 and 14B Bible's both have a shortcut on my phone's second home page :thumb:.
I've done the gears on both. But I haven't been inside the outer hub/ brake area. I'll need the Bible for sure for that one. Pics I've seen, and the little tech I've read on them parts seems pretty simple though. Just big and heavy lol

If the guts swap goes well tomorrow, I should have the rear axle installed by the time I leave the shop.

I'll probably have all the little crap like brake lines and such to do still. But I'm shooting for it to be sitting on its own springs and tires.

Axles are laid out far enough apart to do all of the swapping. Cases are both open, bearing caps marked, bolts loose, and adjusting rings loose.

Does this mean I still need to shim my pinion out just a tad ?

Decided to try one of these.
I kind of actually wanted the greaseable one. But they didn't have it at Orilleys.

proven fact years ago in a mag i read greasable even if done correct tend to last less than true non greasable .

Half of that is probably due to over greasing and blowing the seals though lol.

This one is stronger and cheaper :D .
So that made the greaseable one less appealing anyway lol

That gear pattern.... Am I correct that the pinion needs to be shimmed out?

I've looked around online, and they all tell me what it should look like.
But nobody says how to change it one way or the other lol

I am no expert on setting up gears practically but I am an engineer and since no one has said anything, I will say it looks like the pinion is too deep. Get it closer to the middle then you can figure out the offset
