Shorty the crewcab. (Been saved from the chopping block)

81 CC short bed conversion
I'm kicking around a trans swap idea. I've wanted to do it for a while really.

I have a 4l80e with the long splined 2wd tail shaft.... In orange box in pic.
I'm not sure what would be the easiest or cheapest way to go for a TC.

1. Find a pass drop 32 spline 241 and the adapter for it. Then cut my tail shaft to the correct length.

2. Convert my 205 to 32spline input, and find the correct adapter.

It actually seems like it would be easier to find the 241 lol. Not sure.
Cross member I don't care about because I'll just build whatever I need.

I would like 241 my self for gearing . Even tho i love my 205 cases .

And unless your 2wd trans has the FULL length spline output you cant cut it down . Go check my doubler thread in the advanced article section for shaft info .

Whats wrong with a 208?
Not much really, but the 241 is just the "problems fixed" version. :dunno:

Forgot the pic lol.

Sucks because I just sold a 32 spl 208 :doah:.
If I still had it, I'd use it. But since I have to find one anyway I figured I'd step up.

It'll be a while, because I have to finish my motor swap on the other truck first

I have a 32 spline 208 in my parts horde.

Notice that shorter bottom section also on the TRUE 4wd shaft . That helps clear the input shaft from hitting / bottoming out. I found this out and pointed it out in the doubler thread . Could be fixed easy with a clocking ring as a spacer tho .

If you keep the 205 and its a round 6 pattern use the full spline and a short input for the fig8 style case and you wont have the bottom out problem . Then cut the shaft to length .

I would keep the 205. If I was you.
That's what I'd rather do. But I think the adapter from 4l80 to figure 8 205 is hard to find. If I went with an AA one it'd be $$$ too.

I noticed that.
I did research on the 2 a while back and came up with you have to use the short 32spl input in the 205 iirc. Or use the long and trim it back.... :dunno: . Ill have to check out your thread again.. I seen that when I was looking into it I believe.

Lol. Beat me to it while I was typing.

Been driving the doors of of this thing lately. It's pretty much my daily right now.

I did a little exhaust work to tone it down inside. It took a little getting used to l, but I like the sound better now actually.
All I did was 45 the tubes from where they dumped just behind the cab, back to right in front of the rear tires.

Yesterday I checked the drivetrain fluids for the hell of it, and ended up adding 4.5 qts between the front and rear pumpkins and the transfer case. So I think I have some sealing to do lol.

It sounded deeper, and I liked it a lot. And really didn't drone in the front seat at all surprisingly. The wife and me could talk easily going down the highway.

But kaz always covered his ears in the back seat on the highway. So I'm guessing it was droning back there.

When I first did this extension I had them turning straight down. For the neighbors sake. But I got worried about overheated tires so I sliced em and turned them out more. Probably wasn't needed, but now its kinda loud when your next to other cars, or like concrete guard rails and such.

Yes, yes that would be awesome.
We have a short one a block from my house under some train tracks. I absolutely can not drive through there normally lol.
Usually I idle up to it in first and smash it as soon as we get in there :waytogo:

Haven't done it since the change though

Well, the other day leaving work I heard a small pop sound while making a hard left out of the plant.
Then I started getting an odd steering feeling. Kind of a pulsation side to side real slow and faint.
I went through checking everything and could find nothing. So I took a few pics.
And found this.

So now I need to fix one of the other trucks quick, so I can get this on apart :doah:
