Shorty the crewcab. (Been saved from the chopping block)

81 CC short bed conversion
Changing that joint probably wouldn't have been that bad, because it all came apart easily.... Except the caps were seized onto the joint lol.
Totally dry and rusty in there.
I think I'm going to get another one the next time I get paid and just do the other side before it gets that way too.

May need to go to something besides the Edelbrock.
EFI, quadrajunk, Holley truck avenger?....
Every time I got the nose up like that it faltered or died.

I put the spring loaded needles in my edelbrock along with blocking the fuel passage ways between the bowls and never had an issue even up to 30* inclines.

I'm not an Edelbrock carb fan but like @centexk5 mentioned they can be modded to work well offroad.

But if you're really looking for an excuse to buy something different, then yes your REALLY must do an EFI swap. :D :deal:

Had never heard of that.
This one's inline for a rebuild anyway.
It's leaking out of the secondary vane shaft on the driver's side.
Also out of the top on the driver side main metering cap.

I have a buddy that has my old Holley truck avenger. I offered him $200 for it, since it's 10 years old and never been rebuilt. But I guess that wasn't enough :dunno:
I'm not sure if a 670 is big enough for a bored and cammed big block either. So I never pushed the offer.
I personally never had that one inclined to see if it was any good at it either though lol.

670 would probably be enough for normal driving, but if you wanted to run high RPM you'd want bigger I'm sure.

You could throw a Sniper or FiTech on it. Just have to be prepared to do the fuel system mods.

It hits probably 5.5-6k here and there.
No tach, but that'd be my closest guest.
Never for a very sustained period.

If I can make what I have work better I'll do that.
I'm going to have to look into that for sure.

I have a JET stage III carb. It worked pretty good on the Maiden, until I had tank pickup issues….like my pickup fell off the pickup tube allowing air to be pulled in…..went to FI.
then I let Adam borrow it for his 406, and he couldn’t get it tuned in, and ended up breaking the accelerator pump roll pin part of the top casting, so it would need a new top cover to the carb body. Interested?

I'm going to see what I can do with this first I think.
If I go quadrajet Ill have to run an adapter or change intake. I have a mid rise square bore single plane at the moment.
Combo runs pretty good for the most part.
And I've had it angled up before with no issues.
I'm kind of wondering if there's more going on since it was doing the random dieing thing not long ago. Which apparently went away on its own already... :dunno:
Never did it once all day yesterday.
I'll give this one a good cleaning and rebuild, and look into the mods mentioned while I do it.
Then see how it goes.
If it still has vertical issues, (didn't do it pointed down that hill a little higher up), then it'll get a Qjet and I may hit you up:waytogo:

All I can say is other efi which is what I would do, the only carb I had that didn't give me trouble off road was the stock qjet

Beags is bringing me a couple rebuildable qjets this weekend so I can pick one for the dually. Maybe I'll take both, get an adapter for now, and look into what I need to do to make Dave's usable for the long run.

I really don't want to do EFI on this one.

Really the only fuel system mod I would need for efi is an in tank pump and the sending unit it goes with.
Not much else.
Run a return line quick maybe. Take about an hr.

I just don't want the cost lol

I'm not totally against it.
I'm doing full EFI on the newer burb.
And the dually may get it some day for milage purposes.
But I want to be able to figure out and fix this with basic hand tools when I'm way out in the middle of BFI wheeling and it suddenly quits running.
If it wasn't for the maintenance and occasional BS I'd go as far as points to get rid of the ignition module lol.
But at least carrying a spare is simple to change and rule it out if it dies.

After the burnt suburban I can understand why.
But I am lucky so far.
Both my 89 tbi and my 96 and 97 vortec have ben good to me
I actually took all of the brand new components I put into that thing back off when I went carb. Then put them all, in a box with the wiring harness, I take, TB, salad bowl, etc. Still have all of it sitting in a box on my back porch for some reason.

Probably because I spent a grand and didn't want to throw it away lol.

You can reuse them on another project, keep them.

Personally if I ever buy another 80's TBI Chevy I'll probably convert it to carb or something else before I even put plates on it lol.

Only part of the entire system that wasn't new or rebuilt was the wiring harness (probably the culprit) and the knock sensor. I actually had the knock sensor but didn't figure out where it was to change it until I had already bought an intake and carb.
