I have an amazing opportunity to get some retired military 42's with at least 90% tread for 50 a piece. I REALLY want to get them but not sure if i should. i drive my truck everywhere, and besides all the "holy ****" looks i would get im not sure if i would like it. i would finally have some incentive to put a 6 inch lift on my truck though =] And i would have to run 20 inch wheels.

Should i do it?

I would be fine with 20's. i actually have some laying around off of a diesel down at my dad's.

And i already have 3 inch body so it would be 9 inches total.

Lol no way. Especially not those 42s.

i have countless 10 bolts sitting around. and more to be pulled. a couple d60's but i'll throw one in when i start breaking stuff. We own a junkyard. (which is actually in the right of the picture just a little) so replacement axle parts is endless.

I was breaking stock front shafts on 36s. IMHO on 42's (especially that heavy) its a given you will break front shafts, u-joints, lockouts... - So, how hard do you wheel and do you mind replacing the broken parts?

im the guy that does the stupid stuff no one else will try. But im also a smart driver. i dont like to do thing i KNOW the truck cant handle. And i dont mind changing out parts. It gives me something to do.

And the front isnt locked. I have no desire in locking a 10 bolt.

Edit: the truck see's more mud than anything else. Im talking buried bumpers and headlights. If it wasnt stuck then i didnt try hard enough.

Those 42s are heavy mud you might be able to make a 10b/44 live but I bet you will be putting that 60 in sooner than later. I always vote for bigger tires so I say go for it

Oh and welcome to the snowball!

I want a set of those for the street, you can always get some tires for offroad

shoot go for it. At that price plus you already have the part to start swaping in if you start breaking things. Wish i had my on junk yard or atleast a good friend who had one. Everything around here they want you first born. Do and ave fun in the mud

I feel like my snowball just dropped off a cliff. I can't stop adding and modifying. But never ever am I going to chop fenders. At least not mine. =) i'll chop up some spares. =p

I've seen those tires in the mud/snow here on a couple of trucks with D60 frts. They often had a hard time with traction in both mud and snow. I was thinking of getting a set but after seeing traction was an issue, I"m not keen on them anymore. With TSL's I had no problem in the same areas, often pulling the Michelined trucks out. Their tires were like new, also milsurplus stock.

well damn party pooper.

I'm pretty sure I'm getting them for free anyways. The tire shop owes us money for resurfacing their drive. =) I feel like a douche when I get free stuff. But I'm a pretty generous guy and I'll do anything for anyone.

Heres my idea for a 6 inch lift. No blocks. I'm going to use my rear springs for front springs with zero rates and longer shackles. And most like suburban rear springs in the back with a shackle flip and maybe longer shackles if need be. Does that sound pretty solid?

Plan on crossover for the front and brake lines and all the other costs with front 52s
