Sliding Window Rebuild

thread bump
thanks Bob
I am installing the slider rebuild kit from Motor City K5 right now and am skeptical about the felt he supplied
so i started looking for options because this was such a huge ordeal and i won't settle for "good enough" before i reinstall the windows

i will update

The glass channel looks better than the lmc crap. When installing ithe frame back into shell use a ton of foam glass cleaner as lubd and use the glass tool with the bead on end. And get the other rubber seal tool. Post a pic of the channel.

thanks Bob
I will post a pic of the OEM felt channel next to the motor city felt , if the glass slides without a ton of effort i will be happy but it sure feels like it is going to be too tight ? , the perimeter weather seal on mine was in good shape other than the chrome insert so getting the window back in won't be to bad , I hope
it was just a pain cleaning all the years of junk out of the track and weatherstrip oh and getting the screws out was a challenge, plus I peeled the old tint off,
and had to fix the wind wing set screws ( I am only on the first window )

well the Motorcity K5 slider kit is crap and i am out a bunch of money unless he does the right thing and sends me a refund ( still waiting on a reply as to the fitment )

the weatherstrip is not made for this size channel so the glass does not slide worth a crap
had he been upfront and said this was the best he could find but it is not OEM quality I would have just passed on the rebuild kits but now i am stuck with no side windows a hole in my wallet and I am looking for a felt channel that actually fits in the channel properly ( at least this thread gives me options) this site makes it hard to just add pictures from a computer but i will upload some to a file share site so i can show you guys what not to buy

it blows my mind what LMC and others will try and pass off on us

Oem on the right fits in the channel and even requires weatherstrip adhesive to hold it the stuff on the left is wider and has wings that push the sides in even more you have to cram it in so much that it requires no adhesive and that's a good thing since i need to remove it since it is unusable

Talked to MotorCity today (they called me ) they are really concerned about my issues and are checking into what may be the reason

So is the Motor city stuff too wide? I know the LMC garbage is too narrow.

I talked to Motor City and He said he had used this product to do a lot of sliding window rebuilds without issue.
he is going to check inventory and see what might be going on , but the OEM aluminum window channel is approx 10mm wide
the flocked weatherstripping I received really needs to be in a 12mm channel to let the window glass slide

i will update his findings and for now, i have a sample of the stuff Bob recommended heading my way

here is the motorcity stuff in a vise set at thhe OEM window channel width 10mm + and then at 12mm

the plastic is a bondo spreader to mimic the glass and is a tad skinnier than the glass . i could not move it in the 10mm opening easily
and that is just 4 inches long

The reason is:
IT’S NOT THE SAME PART! :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

not sure what you mean? the kit i bought is specifically made for the sliders on the K5 it shows the slider in the description ( i inserted the pic from MC above in post #41 already )

IF LOOKING FOR THE FLOCKED CHANNEL FOR THE SLIDING SHELL WINDOWS THIS WORKED FOR MY 84 JIMMY......the lmc channel will never work.
Atwood 122-016543 Pierced Channel Run for Window
ON AMAZON FULFILLED BY Winnebago USED DOOR RUBBER GLUE FROM 3M TO KEEP IN PLACE.

I received my sample of the Amazon weatherstrip today and it is made for a 12mm channel vs the OEm 10.+ and has a real disposition to roll to one side thanks to the groove the aluminum channel has in one side that was intended for the locating wing the OEM semi-rigid weatherstrip had on one side only

I imagine if you glued this down (like Bob suggested) it would work ok ish? but i am glad i only spent 10 bucks on the sample it is not going to be a product I want to use for this application (no offense Bob) and while it worked for him who knows if it is even the same product he bought back then ? the bummer is i can't drive this till i find a decent weather strip or just go to solid glass
and put this nightmare behind me ( it all started with rebuilding the wing retention set screws and having to machine every one of them out and retap and then tint removal and reapplication ) I figured why stop there lets make these like new (bad idea )

I just ordered some of the below flocked stripping the width and height should be close to the OEM i will post back
CRL 96" Flexible Flocked Rubber Glass Run Channel for 1963-1966 Valiant and Dart

So i just got off the phone with MotorCity K5 again
apparently, all the window frames he has, have a channel width of 16 mm mine is just over ten
we are both scratching our heads on this one since I have had my Jimmy for over 25 years and my windows look like OEM with the wings and all we have to imagine there was another supplier in the mix
the kit MotorCity has may well work for most of the sliders but check your sliding channel width to make sure yours is 16mm wide
thanks to Mark from MotorCity for taking the time to figure out what went wrong here

this also explains why the Amazon weather stripping worked for Bob and not me

Had someone PM me about this so figured an update was due

so my motor city kit was a waste of 140 bucks the CRL 96" Flexible Flocked Rubber Glass Run Channel for 1963-1966 Valiant and Dart
that I mentioned at least fit but the window is a biotch to slide
this whole process was disappointing and my windows worked better before I met Motor City K5 check your glass size and ask Motor city to guarantee fitment

I recently got myself a 85 blazer k5
That's in need of some fresh rubber:surepal:
Front window
Both doors
And the rear quarter windows.
Which brand or website should I use?
As I've read that lmc has a crappy fitment omong others.
So what do you guys use these days?

Whos this guy ?
I don’t like this site enough to pay the ransom to view the image
