Slowly but surely, the 1988 V20 Sub

Nothing new and exciting with the burb sadly. Have been driving it a ton this fall and decided to put a factory stick on the transmission. It definitely quieted down any trans noise, amazing the difference. Also install a cloth dash mat. Covers the cracks and looks decent so we’ll call that a win.

Up next is the brakes, the old master cylinder cap started leaking and sloshed all the fluid out so they’ve been spongy. Got a new master on and have good front brakes but nothing to the rear at all. This thing has the LSPV above the rear axle so I’m going to bypass that and try again. Hopefully we get some more nice weather so I can try it.

Even with the brakes not being 100% this thing is just a joy to drive. Have been doing all sorts of local back road exploring with the pups. Hopefully next year get to work on the suspension, but for now I’m enjoying the old man look.

I've had the rubber brake hose on the rear end get "clogged" up inside,no fluid would pass thru it,and 125 psi from my air compressor wouldn't either...replaced it and ta-da,the rear brakes got fluid and worked good again after bleeding..
I replaced a master cylinder for nothing ,it was exactly the same until I put a new hose on..
I ditched that load compensator valve on a C-10 I had,it made the rear brakes lock up much more easily, but I got used to it quickly..the valve was rusted and leaking so I had to ditch it..didn't need it really anyways..

I hadn’t been under the burb for awhile and forgot it was even back there. It may not be the issue but while the rears aren’t bled it’ll get deleted. I’ve had rubber hose failures so it’ll also get checked while I’m doing it. Just going to pick a day where it isn’t 12° when I wake up haha

Nice scenery.

I have a couple dumb questions...why not just change the cap gasket rather than the whole M/C? Also, why not keep the rear brake valve? So many of us wind up needing to add rear prop valves, why bother deleting one that works? If the load-sensing part still works (as well as it ever did), that's even better.

Eh?

to be honest I didn’t even look for the cap gasket. The whole master was pretty cheap to do.

also the LSPV I believe is my rear braking issue. And when I go to lift the burb next year I don’t want to mess with extending the linage

To clarify, my thought was to use it as a manual proportioning valve if the linkage wasn't working. Set it and forget it, just like my aftermarket valve.

Of course, if your brakes balance properly, you may not have any need for such.

this is my feelings exactly, even once I swap in a full float my brakes are 100% factory so they’ll work with the valve gone. Maybe Saturday I’ll tackle that project

Another excellent picture. :waytogo:

Eh...I've seen this work (Burb), and I've seen this not work (Blazer). The Burb is still a touch too sensitive in the back, but it's fine when loaded up with gear. The Blazer was horrid before I added the valve. YMMV, of course.

Finally used this power bleeder on something of my own for the first time since I bought it. Made bleeding the rear brakes a breeze and totally worth the investment.

Also getting extremely tired of the power windows in this thing even with the relay mod done they’re still finicky and slow. The parts burb has Silverado interior but crank windows. Tempting to swap out the regulators and door panels with these. Super nice and they’re Atleast reliable.

and lastly taking the fuzz balls for a ride before the crappy weather tomorrow. 60° and sunny today then rainy/snowy and 36 the next few days.

You still have the parts burb?

That’ll never happen! Once the body or frame dies that’ll be the burbs new engine. Actually changed the oil in it and the burb the other day

Decided before the snow melts and makes for a muddy mess we’d have a fire out at “the cabin” in the woods by a friends house. Me in the burb And the beat to a pulp ZJ were the only ones to take the trail to get there. Sadly no pictures of the burbs butt sliding into a deep off camber washout, took the Jeep and a my come along to get it out. Definitely bumped up the priority of getting a winch bumper built.

on the way back to the house to pickup another guy I forgot this terrace was there and the drift that went along with it until I rounded the corner. There wasn’t anything solid below the front end for another 2’ or so.

after getting me out the green V10 got buried, this was after I got him tugged out. Thought it was a pretty cool picture.

After way too much WOT shenanigans the fire was worth it, got quite a few of us together and stayed out there until around 10.

We all joked that getting out to the cabin and back (we opted against taking the trail back) was more fun than the big fire itself. It was a great trip that exposed my next two upgrades for the burb. First is onboard air, we aired down for the snow which worked wonders but had to use my friends shop compressor to air back up before leaving. I already ordered a Viair 450C that’ll be here Tuesday so that’ll be taken care of shortly. Next is a front winch and bumper. I really like the stock bumper and bumper guards but as many Deer as we have around here and the need for a winch means I’m going to build something to check both of those boxes. Probably before I get around to lifting it. We’ll see how spring goes.
