I would have bought it too. While the DMV sucks to work with i'll bet it won't be as hard as they say.As long as you have proof you bought it from the junkyard it should not come back to you.

I woulda bought it too. As for the Vin deal. Around here there are tons of rusted out junkers with clean titles. It's not uncommon to switch vin tags. Big ****in deal. It's not stolen, i would'nt worry about it. I also wouldn't go braggin about it either. The less people that know the better.

Guess what I found in the ash tray today while cleaning her up... wait for it....wait for it.... yup the friggin VIN plate!!! Maybe I shoulda gone to Vegas after all.... LMAO!

I've never seen this job done before in person so i cant say f it was done right however the measurments are consistant and the welds look friggin great. Whoever did the work also knew enough about welding not to butt weld the front radiator support together. Isnt that called a Z notch weld or something like that? Anyways Im no expert by far is all im sayin', but looks like a job well done to me.

74' no smog . The ash tray had some old soggy pappers in it. Papers were a gooy mess so they had been there a while and the plate was coroded to the inside/bottom of the pull out tray. Good thing cuz' I might have tossed it with the papers had it come out with em'

Glad to hear your found the vin, but the fact that it was removed from teh truck is still going to cause you problems. I'd double check it matches the frame vins to make sure you have teh right one.

And also, you gotta look into back fees......

I was going to suggest the potential problem of it being removed but decided i shouldn't.

Coming from a junk yard there should be no back fees to worry about.

Yeah makes you wonder why it was removed, but hey I rather wonder why it was removed rather than where it's at.

The problem with the VIN being removed is the fact that they are installed with special Rosette rivets that you cannot buy anywhere. There are some out there that look close to original but not the same. I have been down this road and NEVER again.

yeah depends on HOW it was removed too. I've heard stories of people just drilling out the rivets which kinda makes it obvious since they use a special rivet to hold it in place.

Yah, the moral of the story being that you will never be able to reattach it.

Hence why i am wondering if its even the vin for the truck. Who would remove and then leave it in the truck? NOrmally you would remove it to try and make the truck unidentifiable? Check your frame vin plate.

Man then I'm doubly screwed because my blazer that I have had about ten years now has regular rivets holding it's VIN plate in lol. I checked today...never thought to check before lol.

hopefully someone knowledgeable chimes in. I think drivers side frame rail top by the gas tank.....and front frame horn, maybe passenger side?

From what i've heard the VIN is located on a GM vehicle in 7 places, 1 being on the frame, 1 on the VIN plate and the other 5 on the body in various locations. I've never found any on the frame or anywhere else.
