Softop news

In your situation, I'm wondering if it were feasible to just clamp softtop hardware to the top of the cage so that the canvas would indeed match the roof line...

As for the softtopper, I'm casually interested, and my interest will increase once this goes beyond n=1...

Yeah, that would be doable too, only thing is I would have to come up with some kind of custom clamp thingy. The Boat bimini top hardware, other then having to ream out .033 thousands is working perfectly so far. It's cast 316 Stainless Steel so it will never rust and it's polished to a mirror finish so it looks pretty nice too. The EMT tube is dirt cheap. Only thing I'm not sure of will be the cost of the top material and labor to make it. IF I can get this just like I want it I will still consider making them in a for sale situation. Only time will tell.

Hey folks, My name is Michael Palmer and I recently purchased my 1971 Jimmy about 2 months ago and I was the person who originally contacted Softopper and asked them if they could produce a 1st Gen soft top, they looked into it and since I asked they delivered. Here are a few more pictures currently not on there website you may want to see. They are still working out the back hatch door so there aren't any pictures of it just yet. I agree with the zip out side window idea and I'm not crazy about drilling holes along the top edge of my windshield for snaps but I do like the convertible top design. If there are other ideas please post them or contact Softopper directly so your voice is heard.

It looks like a decent top. They need to make some necessary improovements ofcourse. But, since noone else is making them, not bad for a first effort. I won't have snaps as my windshield mount, I have a factory soft top rail across the windshield, it's screwed all the way across just as if it were snaps but ohwell.

Please help me with understanding what the factory soft top rail you mention is?
Are there any pictures of this rail? I believe the truck they used for the takeoff had a Best Top and they reused the snap system on the windshield.

It's the rail that screws to the top of the windshield frame where the soft top material folds and tucks under it. Then when the top is pulled from the back it taught the top. I don't have pics of it. There was a factory option for a soft top in 73' I believe mine is factory.
