Speedometer recalibration

You do need a correct VSS signal for shifting of an electronically controlled transmission. It can often be calibrated electronically, but not always. If you have one of those gear driven electronic speed sensors, changing the speedo gears may still be a good approach. For a 700R-4, it just means lockup will happen at the wrong speeds. Also, for 80's trucks, the cruise control works by counting revolutions of the speedometer. The cruise will still work fine with the speedo calibrated incorrectly, but you do need a working speedo. Also don't forget that the odometer will be wrong when you're not calibrated. After swapping the whole drivetrain, the actual mileage isn't as relevant, but if you sell it'll have to be marked "not actual mileage".

There are also situations where a GPS speedo doesn't work - like a tunnel (or a dyno!). Also, if you shipped the vehicle cross country it could take a little while to get a fix. I understand they typically work quite well.

Yea I'm trying not to spring 800$ for a Dakota dash with gps but I'm losing patience. It's not ultra critical how fast I'm goin I'm just a pain n I like my shit to work lol

So how long before you get it running?
Then you can find out how far off it is with the ratio box removed.

I just got the app on my phone to gps it. I'm gonna test the accuracy against my car today. This week I'm ordering the intake gaskets and filling it with oil again with fingers crossed that the pcv system helps to "set" the rings and I can finally drive it far enough to even let the fitech "learn". It's bugging me

that ratio almost seems wrong way i have always run a GM reducer that is stamped .7333 and it put me within 2 mph been trying to find another cause it started to come apart after 20 years of service
