Squarebody CHOP Shop

It's weird the different terminology across the country. You would not get that here if you asked for "gravel".

We use crushed rock, gravel, sometimes even just rock.
What do you call it?
Although this looks more like aggregate base, looks like it has fines not just clean rock
But that is what you want as road base anyway

It is technically called "one and one quarter minus" out here. Basically it is everything smaller than 1.25" square when they run it through a screen. Makes a great road or driveway base.

Yeah when I took another look at it I realized it was road base.
We usually use 3/4" minus since all we do is subdivision roads but on highway we used 1.25" minus.

Wrapping up a long day. I followed instructions for at least the first 65-70 feet. Lay down fabric, base layer of rock, drain line, back fill with rocks wrapping the fabric around the line covered in gravel, and back filling the extra wide trench with dirt, covering the fabric with rock, all by hand.

That put me about an hour before sunset so I changed up plans when the drain line was fighting me and I was exhausted with about 45-50 feet of deeper trench to go. I switched to lay down fabric, base layer of rock, drain line, partially fill trench with rock from tractor bucket, cover with fabric, then fill to top with rock. Knocked out the last part in under an hour.

This morning, I went out early and spread the last of the rock (about 4 yards left over) on the softer dirt.

Then, hauled three more loads of 1.25 minus. Two went behind the shop, one in front on a soft spot. Now, I will hand from for at least 6 project trucks parked on gravel behind the shop. Eventually, I plan to build a 20 x 55 lean-to in this area. I also found some 100+ tread old glass in the ground while digging.

I've noticed the same thing, you take a picture of a rainbow and you can see it a lot better in person, nice picture.

Today's project, filling the doors in, with materials we had on hand, that we cut out 3 years ago.

We originally made horse paddocks on the back of the small barn, but no longer need them now that we are down to only two horses. This will keep the stalls cleaner and dry this winter.
