This one is my project. I haven't fully formed the plan yet, but it is going to be built as a tribute to my dad's 1978 K30.
4th of July weekend lineup.
I was able to finish up the insulation in the ceiling and most of the ceiling drywall in the shushed.
More drywall today. The first couple pieces, I cut the hole too large too fit over the outlet. So I'm already patching those.

Depth was the issue, not overlap. the box for the outlet being recessed behind the drywall means the outlet needs to sit on top of the drywall for the cover plate to work.

You could use extentions for that
Shortest one I've seen is 1/2" when I need about 3/16". I could have also put spacers between the outlet tab and box, but fixing the drywall was faster than driving to the store for more stuff. It is a two hour round trip minimum to run into town from where I live.
