Start work on my efi install

I dont know, that would be a question for fitech, and you would have better luck asking through email unless you like being on hold for 2 hours.

Doesn't matter to me at all, I don't run this. Just mentioning it to possibly eliminate the necessity of mounting anything.

The necessity to visually see the handheld is based on the users preference. Some people like to see the AFR's, temp, RPM etc. others could careless if they're satisfied with the gauges already visually avaialble. Myself for example, I don't have an RPM gauge so I wouldn't mind having it visually for that reason alone. Plus you can customize the main screen to show 1-4 vitals at a quick glance.
 
and check for faults, i found out my tach is off by 500 rpm according to the hand held and if you tap the tach it reads right but falls off again so im going to cut it out of the system and just use the hand held

the only place i see is to put it on the column and block the clock(that sounded dirty in my head) like with a roll bar mount modified

If there is something wrong with EFI, you'll know it I suppose is how I look at it. Then when you know something is wrong, break out the unit. If you are missing something like a tach or temp though, I can certainly see it. I understand it's personal preference, do as you wish, but once you've seen it in operation for a month or so, the extraneous data will be just that. :)

That can definitely be done. And you are right. The bottom of the handheld has a USB port to hook up to Windows PC/tablet, and there is even an admin of one of the Facebook user groups using a cheap Walmart tablet gathering and displaying data too.

Also the handheld isn't needed to run, just to display, so if it is redundant or you just don't need it, you don't have to have it hooked up.

Could you build a swing arm type of mount that would come out from under the dash, like below the oil pressure gauge? Not sure, just thinking some flat aluminium strap, nylon washers at the pivots. Make it swing out, then up . I don't know if it would tuck close enough to the dash, angled up, to stay away from the right knee.

I'm sure something like that would work. It's kinda funky that the wires plug in on top of the handheld.
 
Did you end up keeping the aluminum line? If so how's that holding up? In the instructions it said not to use it but I didn't listen, I'm debating running rubber the entire way or giving the aluminum line a shot. I read you had cracks where you bent it and that scares me a little.

Btw I kick myself for not reading this thread first and getting the fittings for the sending unit. Now I'm scrambling trying to figure that out.

i had a bought a steel roll of line from orielys and i spliced that part out that cracked with a coupler I have not decided to keep the steel or run braided all the way.
 
spliced like you flared it? I used the summit steel hardline with summit tube adapters to 6an line on both ends. No issues......
 
i also put a piece of 3/4 hose around it so if it ever does leak it will run down the frame and not spray the headers
 
Dumb question, did you run a new feed and return line or just a new feed and used a stock line as a return?
On my 78 I am thinking of running a new feed line and using the factory feed as my return, trying to get an idea of how others do it.
 
Yes new feed and factory as return just have to connect the line about the middle of the truck with a compression coupler
 
Why back in the middle of the truck? I would think the easiest option is to use a AN tube adapter down where the line connected to the mechanical fuel pump. From there run it up to the front passenger side of the FiTech with some 6AN line. This keeps it away from the exhaust.
 
the factory uses a 2 piece line they connect with a piece of 3/8 hose you have to get rid of that, and yes an tube adapter would do it too. i spent over 200 bucks on tube adapters and cracked one had to use something there.
there is a source in town for some tube adapters but not many.didnt want to wait on summit
