Stomis' Return of the Truck Build

Well I'm a cool jersey guy just like ryoken and damn it if he can have his own build thread so can I  So I'm turning this whole tube bed post into my summer overhaul thread since I've accumulated a list... which I'll provide you in a moment.

The Surgeons List:

52in front springs
14in travel vertical mounted shocks
hardline the front axle and move flex lines to center
weld in adjustable spring mounts up front
mild boatside
clean up all the wiring in the truck so its nice - DONE
piece together a custom dash
put another coat of herculiner in the cab
plank the deck (lol) - DONE
stinger for front bumper
finish front bumper so it wraps the fenders
cage the bed with poop pipe
reinstall my toolboxes - DONE
clock my transfer case
switch out my transmission for the rebuilt one I have thats been sitting in my friends yard for a year
build a hi clearance tranny cross member
higher clearance headers into a single stack behind the cab (not to be cool for water tightness)
ARB snorkel
And lots more I know I'm forgetting.

So yes I gave this a little corny name with some play on the s's.

Welcome to Stomis' Summer Surgery

So since it rained today I didnt get much done. I found out the blazer tank I got used isnt usable cause theres a bunch of little tiny rot wholes in the bottom of it. I'm not risking it so I ordered a new tank from the parts store.

I managed to gut all my terrible terrible wiring and begin fresh starting with the radio. Everythin is gonna be electric tape wrapped and nice and clean.

Since I gutted my dash pad I'm not looking back. I'm going for roomy and simplistic. My dad had a great idea of getting the sheets of inch thick rubber matting and doing from the right side of the guage cluster over in that. I'm gonna make use of all the holes in the stock skeleton to mount that nifty GPS stuff I whipped up a while back. Also gonna flush mount my CB and I already made a nice switch panel where my drivers side upper vent used to be ( have pics of that for you pic whores :D )

As far as around the guage panel it will most likely be some diamond plate zapped together and self tappered in. I was considering having an adventure in fiberglass but screw that...

Now heres something I wanted to ask you guys. I'm sick of routing a million wires to switches from the fuse panel for my accessories. Hows this idea sound?

Take a typical DIY 30amp light relay. Run one wire from ign in the fuse panel to the switch on the relay. Put hot power on the load side and run all my ign sourced switches from that. If I go with this idea I was gonna do the same thing with a hot 8 guage wire to a splitter block that I can used fork wire terminal connectors on. Have it all nice and tucked up behind the dash.

Thoughts, wiring guru comments?

Either way heres the switch panel I made mounted in my bezel.

Absolutely. I've always wondered why I dont see more trucks up in the mountains there. My dad works in Denville and I have a very good friend that lives in Morristown. Is there anything good up there like the scenery would suggest?

Tell ya one thing, from hiking around Heden park as a kid I wish I knew a back entrance to that place.

im actually in rockaway which is right to denville. theres some good trails around here but there startin to crack down a lot more.

still some good mud and scenery tho.

Eh I played the mud game too much and have finally decided its not my thing. If its on a trail thats cool but I'm all about trails with actual obstacles and rocks if I could find some.

Well with much help from my girlfriend the decking for the bed is all bolted down. I snapped two 1/4in bits pilot holing for 5/16th type F bolts (thats what I used to screw the decking down into the center tube). Believe it or not both bits were Irwins. When I didnt feel like going to lowes for the third time I grabbed an ACE brand hard metal bit and the thing performed like a champ.

Anywho heres some pics of the finished product and the flush mount boat filler I used for the fuel tank. I removed the saddle tank finally and have the blazer tanks plumbed, wired, and completely working.

NIce excuse to ask for pics of other's girls :wink1:

haha

I like this a lot too. Do you need a fuel "key" like some boats, or can you unscrew it by hand?

Its got a little level inside the cap that you push down and a tab pops up to unscrew it. It took me a min to figure it out so I think I'll be filling it up myself :D

Thanks for the compliments though guys. Its crunch time to get the truck done since plans are evolving and I'm moving out in a couple months. That means I'm gonna hit up my cash that I was saving for when I move out to pick up a few goodies for the truck like a snorkel and some odds and ends.

If the weather cooperates you'll probably see boatsiding begin this week. If I dont do that then the trans is definitely going in which means clocked t case and square front shaft starts.
