Story of two '72 K5's build

I bought my tank/sender from a local distributor. I think they all come from the same place.

Pulling my tank today. Will see what I manage to find. Took it down to get boiled and a new nipple put on.

Checked Checker/Kragen and ordered one for $117.00. Not sure which float.
Went to NAPA and they have thiers for $103.00. Ordered one from there also. They were able to pull a pic and the float is made of plastic, which I think will be better than brass.

"It wasnt too bad of a bonus, plus i have a pretty cool wife who sais that if i deploy 4 times to get shot at then i earned the money and should build myself a truck like i have been bitching about for so long. But i did end up trading in her old cavalier for an 06' Acura TL and giving her lots of shopping money just incase. "

I figure both of you earned whatever the govt. gave you and MORE. Enjoy and thanks for protecting us.

I am pretty sure that i do not need this piece anymore with my new ORD shackle hangers, but i thought i would run it by you guys anyway. So...i can go ahead and remove this right?

Not related but wanted to share it anyway...Not sure why the previous owner did this to the front crossmember.

That was most likely done to clear a PTO driveshaft for a winch. They sure didn't do anyone any favors by doing it though. Make sure you patch that since it's the only thing holding the front half of the frame together.

Yeah i plan too, blew my mind when i saw that hole, couldnt figure out why in the hell anyone would do that and think it was a good idea.

See if you can find a replacement crossmember and then just bolt it in with Gr-8 hardware. It would probably be stronger and simpler than trying to scab on a patch to the existing one.

May be a lil late on the post, but this is the sending unit I picked up from Checker today...

Got a part # on that RudyO?

Big day today, however small it may seem this is the first part on the re-build of this truck to be installed. I just wish the bushings would hurry up so i could actualy put the shackles on and finish up the rear suspension. I hate when 1 small piece makes you wait. Before anyone suggests it..YES i know the spring does not go there, its just how it sits.

Almost got a ton of work done today, but hit a few walls.

First i noticed that the HD front shackle hangers i got from ORD looked nothing like the stock ones, so i called and they said they were only for 73+ but would work with some well...work. I figured while ordering the hangers that since i was ordering everything else for my suspension for a 69-72 blazer that when i said i wanted a part they would have let me know it wasnt right for the vehicle. Oh well, i called and they were very cool, i talked with some guy named steve and he said just send them back and i could get store credit or a refund, my choice.

Well this created problem number 2...Since i got the HD shackle hangers i also got the Bushings and Bolts for those specific hangers, which i came to find out are alot larger than stock shackle hanger bushings. I couldnt use the stock stuff as i am useing the HD front shackles which will require a slightly longer and thicker bolt, plus i had destroyed the original bushings when i removed them so nomatter what i did i was stuck until i got some new bushings. Once again i called ORD and at the very end of thier work day they get the bushings out and next-day Aired them to me.

So i could have had the whole front suspension done, but oh well. Here are some pics, I am still waiting on the rear shackle bushings and then that will be done also.

Also waiting on Rust Bullet before i start really coating things.

Front EZ-rides on with HD shackles..well a bolt is holding them up as there are no bushings in the shackle hanger

So did your heater come in yet? Do the aftermarket ones use the original switches or is that part of the kit?
