Stranded...waiting on a flatbed

Could it really have burned a new coil or ignition module?

I guess I will know if I can move the distributor with my hand

That is a big no...I cannot move the distributor..it is tight.

Still need to confirm spark, TDC is all aligned, timing is correct.

Yes put screwdriver in boot and get near a ground with said metal part of screw driver or get a spark testing tool from a parts store, less shocking way....

Too far advanced will cause it to run hot as well as not want to start.

Tight distributor now does not mean it did not move before.

Do you have a timing light ? If not go get one. You need it.

I have a timing light...i set the timing last week...set it to 10* BTDC

It was still running hot even when it said 10* BTDC..that's how I have been running it for 2 or 3 weeks now

Is it possible that I have a bad fan clutch again already...not cooling...

It has been running at 3/4 on the temp gauge ever since the new distributor and plugs and timing...it just went past that to "H" today after driving 13 miles

it will be cooled down again and I will look at it tomorrow after work.

You would hear that.

I mean not coming on...not stuck. This was the trouble 7 years ago when it ran hot. Replaced the fan clutch and it ran cool. It never would speed up.

If it got hot you could have easily fried the ignition module in the dizzy. Heat is their enemy. Some brands are touchier than others. Most use Delco only, because they seem to hold up better.

Not sure what you put in for a dizzy.
That wouldn't have made it run hot, but running hot could have killed it. Pretty easy to swap to rule it out.
